It seems like this "Weird Al Yankovich" has been putting out a lot of new records lately. I think he's on his way to becoming the next superstar in rock and roll music.

Thanks for posting. We were just wondering about “Weird Al” - we always attended his concerts at the Orange County, CA fair but he hasn’t been there the past two years.

My kids have ALL of his CDs.

My husband said he’s only been to two concerts were the majority of the audience knew all the words to all of the songs - Johnny Cash and Weird Al.

Weird Al has a new album out called "Mandatory Fun". He's promoting it with 8 videos in 8 days.

Each video has premiered on a different web site, but they are all posted at his official web site:

They can't all be winners. Oh well.

I liked the song "Tacky", but the video was "eh". This one, I'm not found of either.

The video for “Word Crimes” went really well with the song.

His parody of “Royal” (”Foil”) Is pretty good, too.

I’m a former cardcarrying Close Personal Friend of Al (his fan club went by CPFA)... heavy nerd credit there for me... anyways, a few years back Al lost both of his parents due to carbon monoxide poisioning in their home. A cracked combustion chamber on their furnace or something like that.   I can only imagine how devastating that was to Al.

I think that Al is getting a creative spurt right when pop music is just a desert. It’s hard to do a parody when the original is mediocre and vapid, not musically or lyrically unique.

Perhaps Al should do some more “straight” covers. Officially the only one he has done was the theme to George of the Jungle. While he has taken freely of some of Spike Jones and his City Slickers, there is a huge library out there of musical comedy that would be just as fresh today as when it originally came out.

A good example was from The Reverend Horton Heat, who did a sort of cover medley of the Jonny Quest theme and the Dastardly and Muttley intro to Stop That Pigeon.

Weird Al could fill several albums with stuff like this and they would sell well, at least compared to weak parodies of forgettable pop music.
