The Belton man who died when a pickup he was driving struck a mobile home died during the wreck, not during a resulting fire, said Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore after an autopsy was performed Sunday.
Adam Colby Payton, 23, died of blunt force trauma to his chest and abdomen, Shore said Sunday. He was on his way to go fishing with a friend when the wreck occurred, said his mother, Lisa Payton.
The 2006 pickup Payton was driving swerved off Due West Road about three miles west of Honea Path early Saturday afternoon, said Lance Cpl. Tony Keller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The pickup struck a mobile home, Keller said, lifting the home off its foundation.
The truck caught fire after it struck the home.
Payton, a former Eagle Scout, planned to resume taking classes in industrial electronics at Tri-County Technical College on Monday. He had taken classes previously, but took time off, Lisa Payton said.
He and a twin sister were graduates of Belton-Honea Path High School, Lisa Payton said.
Shore said he did not think drugs or alcohol played a role in crash. Instead, he said, speed was likely a factor, as was rain falling at the time.
The passenger in the truck and a woman in the mobile home were not injured in the wreck.
SC Ping Worthy?
There is a seriously good country song in this.
RIP.
Was the mobile home on the highway at the time?
This is very vague to say the least...
Article is very poorly written.
Says it was knocked off its foundation, suggesting the mobile home was stationary.
Shore, why not?
