Any thoughts on Windows 10 preview? Vanity
today | me

Posted on 10/01/2014 5:37:10 PM PDT by aft_lizard

Anybody else download and install the Windows 10 preview? I am using it now. I haven't noticed any major hiccups yet, speed and responsiveness is great. Having the live tiles and apps in the start menu is great, especially since you can now use the apps in a window. I also noticed my apps from my old WinRT tablet show and work in x86.

What kind of question is that?

Yes, the thing looks and works great. Hopefully the addresses the interface issues everyone seems to have and we can have a Windows release without all the complaining.

Is it worth the time and effort?

I have a Thinkpad 4GB .. my Windows rating is 4.8 which is kind of crappy but this is my “fun” computer.

Just google Windows Technical Preview, or go to extremetech.com, they have a story directing you to MSs site. I am on my phone otherwise I would link it.

15 minutes tops.

Is this the one with "Asimov" realtime tracking?

Never fear though, the data is fractured and muddled and obscured and it can't possibly be used to actually track what you use your computer for. Really.

Really.

If its your fun PC I would. I just happened to have an extra drive sitting around that I decided to install it on. The new start menu is great and if you want quick access to apps its quite nice, and customizable.

Unless you are offline completely everything you do no matter which OS is being watched. The obscurity of Linux is no protection from big brother when they want something.

Hopefully the addresses the interface issues everyone seems to have and we can have a Windows release without all the complaining.

Some will complain no matter what. I still question jamming the two different user paradigms together the way they are. "Metro" apps running in a window ... ok, fine. It's still an ugly ass "Metro" app.

Speed wise: quite acceptable. Seems to be a little more resource hungry than Windows 8.1.

My config:
AMD FX-8350 8-Core @ 4.8Ghz (overclocked)
32GB 1866 DDR-3 RAM
Samsung EVO 840 250GB SSD
GEForce GTX 660 SuperClocked Video w/2GB 1866 DDR-3 Ram

If Microsoft insists on jamming Metro Apps to the "start button" that they're showing, I'll stick with Windows 8.1. I've no compelling reason to change. I have my machine configured the way I want it, I use a third-party Start Button and Themed my machine to look like Windows 7.

I don't want to re-do all that work.

You realize that has nothing to do with the OS itself and everything to do with your connection speed to the 'net, right?

They are customizable and removable. I like having them there personally. Quick access to apps, live tiles with mail updates, news updates etc without launching is nice.
