In the beginning, this site was red hot because people finally had a chance to voice their knowledge and opinions on real time current events. Now with twitter and facebook, people are just talked out. That is why we spend so much time watching cat videos.
That being said, my favorite time was the Dan Rather memogate where some of our very own Freepers proved his memos to smear Bush where essentially photocopied default setting Microsoft Word documents and obviously fake. Not only was that cool seeing the Freepers pull this together, but it was part of pulling down the walls of the corporate media and overcoming their propaganda.

I remember the Bush election when Rather was announcing for I think it was Gore ( the first election) and the election stats all over the net showed that Bush was way ahead. We put the information together and flooded CBS that election night. He retracted his statement about 1 or two am. We worked hard.
My biggest regret is not going to the Inaugural Ball and other get togethers. I have been here 16 years and have not made one friend.
In 1997, I found FR through the Drudge Report’s “Whitewater files” link. Been here ever since.
There is a great many gone, I miss.
I had to re-register with the help of Yellow Rose of Texas and Jim, during an upgrade. I was in Utah, using an old slow laptop in an internet café with dialup. I am six or so months older.
Yet another thing the Nazi bastards have ruined . . .
I remember interesting profile pages, never built one but also didn’t know that there was a problem with the pages.
But others have.
Go bat crazy. That will do it. I’ve got pissed from time to time but sometimes get a break. One other for my friends in the Southland here it is.

I use FR as my jumping off point for the Internet, where I go to find out what is going on in the world.
I don’t watch television, haven’’t since about 1997. Don’t read papers. Don’t read rags like Time. Don’t listen to radio.
I come to FR every day, and investigate things from here. Normally, I would have worried about ideological tunnel vision, but it is pretty clear the way things are laid out, I am not missing anything.
When it is a military issue, this is where I come. I need information about aviation, there are good sources here at FR. Energy? People like Thackney. And so on.
I do miss some of the earlier folks as well who don’t come here anymore, have been kicked off, or have passed away.

Thanks. Part of it was that I was just too busy raising kids, and part of it was my shyness.
Have had some wonderful connections like Tijuana slim sending my son just the right book when it was needed. Things I would have done over.
Some of us couldn’t master the arcane rules of html, and got the forums really messed up, trying to quote with “italics” - everything posted after our mess up was italic, and we couldn’t figure out how to get them turned off.
Led to a lot of “eytalian” jokes.
Were you here for the shower jokes, the moose bit my sister jokes, and the hugh and series jokes?
Those were fun times - we laughed a lot together at our mistypings and errors. We were more forgiving and not so nit-persickety as some are today.
It was fun to be young then.
