KENOSHA (WITI) The Kenosha County Jail is taking precautions monitoring an detainee for signs of the Ebola virus. Local officials are in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with other federal officials.
The Kenosha County Sheriffs Office confirms with FOX6 News that at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8th, a woman came into the jail from OHare International Airport in Chicago. As officials screened her, they realized she is from Liberia a country hard hit with the Ebola outbreak. Officials say the woman was brought in as a federal immigration detainee until she can be deported.
Its important to note, so far this person has not shown any signs of being infected but the jail is taking precautions.
Its a scary disease thats out there. Weve made calls to the CDC, theyve sent us information. Immigration has sent us information. Its something we need to address and everyone across the country needs to address, said Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth.
Also on Wednesday, Texas health officials announced the first person diagnosed with the Ebola virus on U.S. soil died. He was admitted and kept in isolation since September 28th. That victim had come from Liberia and the Kenosha County Sheriff says its now important jails have plans and be on the watch.
We realize its not just people who enter the country and visit other people. We have to look into this as a serious threat too, said Sheriff Beth.
Kenosha County Jail medical staff is monitoring the Liberian detainee twice a day looking for Ebola symptoms with a checklist from the CDC. Officials have also been in contact with area hospitals as to what will be done if the detainee does show symptoms.
We currently have the person in the medical ward or were transporting them to the medical ward in a negative airflow cell that we have. And the medical staff is looking into this and were doing an interview with this person as we speak and where theyve traveled and where theyve been to, said Sheriff Beth.
The Kenosha County Jail does house detainees for immigration officials on a regular basis so thats not unusual.
This immigration detainee is expected to be deported back to her home country shortly. As for how she got into this country or why shes being sent back we do not have the answers for that yet. The Federal Department of Customs and Border Protection has not replied to FOX6 News emails.
" Officials have also been in contact with area hospitals as to what will be done if the detainee does show symptoms."
The phrasing in that statement is repeated here:

"The sheriffs department contacted the CDC after they found out shes from Liberia, which has been dealing with the Ebola virus.
The woman has not shown any symptoms.
Jail officials say theyre monitoring the woman twice a day.
They say theyre also in contact with area hospitals so they know what to do if any symptoms appear.
The woman is expected to be deported."
"they" are in contact with hospitals for directions on what to do if detainee tests positive.
"They"/"Officials" are in contact with "hospitals" . . .not the CDC, not Federal officials determining protocol for Ebola? Does ANYONE believe/trust anything this administration says?
oh boy - It’s getting interesting...
Maybe the woman flew in to see the wonderful city of the Preseident...and perhaps meet him down South Chicago!
The Red Line will take on a whole new meaning...glad I moved out last month!!!
Well it sounds like some folks up there in Kenosha have some common sense. That’s refreshing.
Riddle me this. How does this person landing at O’Hara get transferred to a neighboring county in another state?
“Riddle me this. How does this person landing at OHara get transferred to a neighboring county in another state?”
I asked on another thread last night, basically the same question. But with a corrallary- why are these cases turning up in states are anti democrat.
Could it be that fed is directing these people to punish the citizens of these states?
Ping.
"What criteria determines transfer to another state for detention..."
My uneducated guess - it has something to do with the availability of sequestering/isolating potential contagions as revealed in this statement of the first link in the post:
"We currently have the person in the medical ward or were transporting them to the -
- medical ward in a negative airflow cell
- that we have.
Now, why a county jail has a medical ward with a negative airflow cell raises a hornets nest of questions.
What kind of pestilence does Kanosha County anticipate with their incarcerated populations?
Hidden nugget: Local officials can apparently detain illegal Liberians, but not Mexicans.
“As for how she got into this country or why shes being sent back we do not have the answers for that yet.”
Because Liberia is doing such a fine job of screening travelers...
Good point...reminds one that ebola is just one component in a long line in the sudden surge in viral and bacterial pestlence migrating with these illegal trespassers.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
There are some excellent, scary and unanswered replies/questions by astute Freepers in this post.
A link to this thread has been posted on the Ebola Surveillance Thread
This is extremely weird. Kenosha County is in Wisconsin.
Thanks for the ping!
