I don’t want to hit this point too hard, but the Indians successfully go to Mars for less than $79M. We can’t get a load of pop tarts and tang to the ISS without the rocket blowing up?
The brain drain at NASA must be serious.

Must’ve been packing alot of wallops.

NASA rocket explodes during launch at Wallops IslandThis was not a "NASA Rocket." This is Orbital Sciences operating under a NASA contract. This is the "cheap, reliable, commercial alternative" to NASA-led programs that FReepers always hail as superior.
I guess nobody's perfect.

Disappointing turn of events.
Stood outside yesterday evening waiting for a chance to see the rocket (far downrange from New England), but the boat in the wrong place caused it to be postponed.
Today it's overcast, so I would not have been able to see it anyway, but still kinda sucks.
A mishap occurred shortly after liftoff. Orbital has declared a contingency. NASA and Orbital are still determining when a press conference will be held.
That's one hell of a 'contingency'.

It’s cargo — insurance will cover it.
If this were a manned mission, it would be a big deal.
Let’s launch another rocket tomorrow!
To: Perdogg
Done before it even cleared the tower. Looks like it started blowing out the left side of the rocket.
