Radio in VA reports Gillespie about to throw in towel (unconfirmed)

Radio reporting Gillespie going to throw in towel. Do we know which precinct in Fairfax turned in the final votes that put Warner over the top? Seems pretty suspicious, when Gillespie was ahead right up to that point, then Fairfax turns in just enough for a Warner "win".

Fairfax always does that. The VA legislature should withhold all vote tallies until everyone has counted.

There is no way Gillespie finds 12k votes. Warner probably has another ballot box squirreled away somewhere

Next time, all precincts should wait for Fairfax to report first. Same with Cook county in IL

Sad news. The DemocRAT get-out-the-cheat effort works in VA.

Normally, I would be rather suspicious. The fact that Gillespie was even in this race speaks volumes to the dissatisfaction of the Dems. The last votes counted were from a heavily Dem district. Warner has got to take notice... though it will likely not happen for 5 1/2 years.

Would have been nice if he could have pulled it out, but I’m sure the Virginia democrat machine made sure there was no chance of that happening. I guess it was a race that was never suppose to have been close anyway so winning would have just been “gravy” on an already great election night...

That is pretty typical of Fairfax County. They always hold their results until all the others are in. Being a Dem. stronghold of Govt. employees, I am not surprised by the results. Gillespie should be proud that he did as well as he did. I would have liked to see more of those Redskin Ads., but that is Monday morning Quarterbacking. Never expected him to win, but he should be proud he did that well.

This would have been a remarkable upset. Much bigger than NC or the others. Too bad. Gillespie made a hell of a run at it.

Ed sure could have used those 50,000+ votes the Liberterian candidate siphoned off.

Congratulations Libertarians!
Once again your brilliant “protest vote” has provided the margin of victory and elected the candidate most likely to have NO COMMON ideology.
How many Kamikaze Konservatives sat home and didn’t vote for Gillespie because he wasn’t pure enough ideologically for them?

The Libertarian candidate was a social liberal. My liberal daughter voted for him rather then for the rich Democrat.

This close race probably blunts the idea of Mark Warner making a Presidential bid. If he only barely scrapes by in a DEM state, how do his nationwide prospects look?

So for that reason Gillespie did us all a huge favor.

Gillespie wants to run for governor. He really didn’t expect to beat Warner. It looks like a Gillespie vs Obenshain primary in 2017.

Ed Gillespie has called a news conference for today. It's believed the Republican will concede the U.S. Senate race to Mark Warner, the incumbent... SNIP.

Set for 1 p.m.

Conservatives/tea parties could have made it happen but mostly sat on their butts including me. Did vote for him, however.

Same thing with Cuccinelli. The establishment didn’t lift a finger to help him.

Virginia Republicans still split since the establishment rammed Romney down our throats.

Too bad they couldn’t come together on these two races as there would have been a different outcome, I believe.

I’m not a libertarian, but those people who vote libertarian are saying, “we don’t like the R or the D”. So it’s jumping to conclusions to think that any of those voters would vote for the R or the D, especially in great enough numbers to make a difference for either candidate.

As a resident of Fairfax county, this is so frustrating!

“Virginia democrat machine made sure there was no chance of that happening. “

Actually, enough people thought Warner was a pragmatist. He got enough crossover votes to win. The Roanoke Times is now saying that his problems came because he wasn’t liberal enough.
