politicians in certain states see low gas prices as an opportunity to raise the gas tax. ..AFTER PILFERING THE STATES HIGHWAY TAXES THEY NOW WANT AN INCREASE ON GAS TAXES BECAUSE OF LOW PRICES. (Note: no mention of reduced taxes when the price goes up again)

Politicians just can’t stand it when taxpayers get to keep more of their own money.

Interesting how a majority of these states could be classified as RED.

What a shock that New Jersey is among those states! I am just floored.

At least Oklahoma is near the low end of the gas taxes, and they’re not considering raising it. Of course ... we pay a LOT OF TOLLS in this state! Just about every direction out of Tulsa ... there is a toll road!

Idaho: A showdown is looming between Republican Governor Butch Otter and the Republican state house over the gas tax. Governor Otter supports an increase while legislators are balking.

PA surpassed CA in 2014 as the worst gas taxed state, and even more is to come this and next year.

I thought gas taxes were per gallon? So if prices are low then more gallons are sold. Lots more taxes collected. They raise the tax then the price per gallon goes up which in my mind means less gallons sold = less taxes collected in the long run.

(The Second Amendment, a Matter of Fact, Not A Matter of Opinion)
In NJ the democrats and republicans have decided to raise the gas tax by 23 cents a gallon.
They say they want the money to pay for fixing the roads and bridges.
When he first entered the white house, Obama and his minions took what they called 'stimulus funds for road ready projects
WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO??
And then there's ever increasing tolls that were supposed to be temporary on the roads/bridges in NJ
That increase every year, but will never ever go away.
...and $14.00 to cross a bridge...
AND NOW, I'M READING THAT GOVERNOR CHRISTIE IS PLANNING TO SIGN THIS ON FRIDAY!
HE CUT A DEAL...
say it isn't so Christie
Nice way to repay those people who supported you...
You know the little people who've been suffering for eight years under Obama.
You bastards.
