How many times do you hear preppers and liberty-minded folks make statements along the line of “When the schumer hits the fan, I will take such action,” or “After some event I will make that change,” or “If it gets to that point, then I’ll take a stand!”? These ideas are based on the premise that there will be “the big event.” The assumption among many preppers and liberty activists is that there will be a clear cut “before” and “after,” with a defining moment, event, or series of events, delineating between the two. Such events could include economic collapse, natural disaster, a pandemic, an EMP or CME, a “terrorist” attack, or martial law. I myself have at times fallen into this very trap.
However, what if this assumption, this premise, is in fact incorrect? What if the creeping trends of tyranny, economic impoverishment, and oppression just continue on, gradually, indefinitely, without an obvious “big event?” After all, the elitist Powers That Be are masters at gradualism, ever so careful not to wake the frog before the pot is boiling.

The author raises a very good question. Gradualism is one of the techniques used by the left.
Gun control, erosion of rights and death by increments...look at the tax code as an example.
Especially because they are clearly willing to spread their nefarious work across multiple generations. When a generation passes the new generation has no personal memory of the way things were.
The majority of Americans won’t be aware of a problem until half a million are vaporized by a nuke... and then only because it interrupted their power supply to their facebook, play station, Xbox or American Idol.
Oh yes, there is going to be a big event all right, Judgement Day.

or using the IRS to destroy people because of their political beliefs
purposefully letting illegal alien hordes swarm the southern border and then try to make them citizens en masse

I’ve been saying all along that there will be no big event. No one is taking away anyone’s guns. It is all one big “bread and circuses”.
Liberties are eroded a little here and a little there in the name of “Patriotism” (Patriot act anyone?). Pogroms. Electronic surveillance and propaganda. On line monitoring. All of this is being done while most people run in circles waiting for the “event”.
Be assured ... if the Government wants you they will get you. All the popguns in the world are meaningless. All the voting is meaningless. All the conspiracy theories are meaningless. This is basic Sun Tzu. Buy all the MREs you want, it won’t matter one bit unless the real threats are addressed. Wanna start somewhere? Start with the electronic voting machines and get rid of them.

“Two steps forward and one step back” was the communist mantra for years. Has it changed? I think Obama’s mantra is “Ten steps forward and no steps back.” Have all democrats turned communist?
America is going through “Death by a thousand cuts”. There is not much blood left in her.
We have come to believe its just going to be a slow devolution into economic collapse. Things will just keep getting worse and worse.
Don’t forget the Obama effect. In his remaining time, he will accomplish much more neutering of police in black areas and his other racial policies will cause the next few summers to be explosive in black areas.

Yes, some time ago. The more interesting thing is how much of the Republican Party has been compromised.
We didn’t do much to prevent the ‘08 and ‘12 big events. Seriously doubt we’ll do much to prevent the big ‘16 event. After that, it’s everyone for themselves.
Texas will soon have open carry.
Texas legislature saved us about $120 on next year’s property tax. Granted, they’re about 20 years too late but every penny helps.
Empires rise and fall, but history doesn’t show many “fire from Heaven” moments.
