Support For Gay Marriage Drops After SCOTUS Ruling

According to a recent AP-GFK poll, support for gay marriage among U.S. citizens has dropped six percentage points since their last poll in April, with more Americans disapproving of the Supreme Court ruling making gay marriage the law of the land than those approving it.

Rather than galvanizing Americans into a unified body, the Obergefell decision has left U.S. citizens more divided than ever on the question of gay marriage, after the court itself showed a deep divide on the issue. In an unprecedented move, the four opposing justices each published an independent dissent, leaving a mine of legal reasoning contrary to the majority opinion.

The AP poll reveals that 42% of Americans favor legal gay marriage, while a similar poll carried out last April showed 48% in favor. Moreover, in conflicts between the interests of same-sex couples and those of religious liberty, a majority of Americans (56%) believe that government should rule in favor of religious freedom.

Specifically, more Americans believe that local officials with religious objections should be exempted from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, with 49% siding with the exemption and 47% saying they should be obliged to comply with the law. Moreover, an increasing number of U.S. citizens believe that wedding-related businesses with religious objections should be allowed to refuse service to gay and lesbian couples. Whereas in April 52% thought they should be accorded this option, the number was up to 59% in the recent poll.

“What the Supreme Court did is jeopardize our religious freedoms,” said Michael Boehm, 61, an industrial controls engineer from the Detroit area who describes himself as a conservative-leaning independent.

Oh now there’s a shocker. A more accurate headline would be “Artificially Inflated gay approval numbers inch closer to factual after USSC ruling damage done.”

You are soooo right. I have never believed the ridiculous assertion that gay marriage had broad support.

Imagine a bunch of PC lapdogs being dominated by less than 2% of the population. I’m not signing up for that.

I guess I wasn’t the only one disgusted by all of the witless lemmings and their rainbow flag festooned profile pictures.

As an ex reporter, trust me. When you read ‘some people believe’ or anything they need a lib slant to in an article, it is the result of a reporter asking the most liberal person in the newsroom for an opinion.

Thats how media works today...for a long time now. I could retire on a dollar per occurrence basis.

Well, that, and the fact that it was imposed by judicial fiat. Laws handed down by judicial fiat aren't often popular.

Plus there's the fact that the GaySTAPO hasn't been very magnanimous in their "victory" to say the least . . . they are now talking openly about expanding their jackboots from businesses to churches.

Too late. The sickness and perversion of sodomy and sodomite marriage has been forced upon us. We must now accept it and be tolerant of their perversion. Or else, by force of government we will be removed from our jobs, our businesses will be forced to close, we will be forced to wear crosses and eventually shipped off to the camps, where work will set us free. All for the good of the new world order and the acceptance of perversity of sodomite marriage.

Do we really want a President who has raised his children to believe that this is normal? I am asking because Walker has raised both his sons in that attitude. You cannot vacation with gays, host parties with gays, and approve the participation of one of your children to be Best Man in a gay wedding and still maintain you are opposed to gay marriage.

The “moral majority” or whatever you want to call it is like a huge grizzly bear in hibernation, it takes a whole lot of poking and prodding to wake it out of its stupor, but when you finally do, your going to really wish you hadn’t...I think the gay marriage ruling and the left acting like such “sore winners” and threatening churches and Christians who didn’t fall into line may have been the one prod too many and the bear is starting to growl and rise to its feet.

First Amendment, Tenth Amendment, we don’t need no stinking Amendments.

I sincerely pray you are right. After all, the thirst for religious liberty is what founded us. We’ve got to fight back!

Thanks for your comments.

It never was there. The polls were just stacked in favor of the court result they wanted. Now they don’t need to skew the results.

Remind yourselves, please, that two men do not make a real marriage. It can never be right. So it doesn’t matter whether such a bizarre concept (same-sex “marriage”)is fringe—having 10% support—or is mainstream—having 90% support. One should state clearly that it is wrong, and one should not cave.
