Emirates has announced the launch of the world's longest non-stop flight - an 8,700mile journey lasting an incredible 17 hours 35 minutes. Starting on February 1, 2016, the service from Dubai to Panama City is exciting news for those who love Central America, but it will be a stern endurance test for anyone in economy class. I spent three years in Panama. I can’t think of any reason to spend 17 hours on some plane to get there. Other than cheap booze, there’s a limited number of reasons to hang out there.

How many people want to fly this route? What are the connections? How is the Duty Free shopping in Panama City?

I was there in the late ‘90s, and I can tell you there was no shortage of very hot women!

You mean after it hits Panama? There are no connections between Emirates and Panama.

17 hours on a plane? Someone let me know how that works out.

My wife and I took a 16 hour non-stop from New York to Mumbai a couple years ago. That’s the longest flight I’ve ever taken by a couple hours. Seventeen hours is just showing off, something Emirates is known for.

I had a miserable time in a shorter 12 hour flight.

Yes, after it hits Panama.

Maybe connecting flights to Tijuana and Matamoros, Mexico.

I went on a triple 777 when heading to Okinawa from the US in 2012, one of the longest series of flights in my life, longer then when I left from UK in 1991 back to US, it was alright, if I fly again I would like to go on the airbus a380, its nice and I may if I take a job with my company that would have me working in Kuwait.

I can't take long flights anymore, even in first class. ATL to HON is best I can handle in first class.

Matter of fact, I don't think I'll ever fly over four hours again.

It’s actually becoming a very popular location for American expatriates to live and retire.
Real Estate costs are reasonable, and I read you pay no taxes the first 20 years you live there.
Go to Craig’s list and look at some of the real estate there, you might be surprised.
The citizens there also seem to be very welcoming of Americans.

But if you are in first class the flight will be too short!
