The NFL did make the announcement, during a game using the CBS A broadcast team. Doesn’t mean they picked the acts.

Can you cite an authoritative source that says the Super Bowl acts are picked by some other than the NFL?

Really, get over it. The network picks the acts. Have for decades.

The article that you refer to does not say that the network picks the halftime acts. Moreover, due to the Janet Jackson "nipplegate" controversy, the NFL dropped their production contract with MTV. A more recent article even refers to the NFL as asking artists under consideration to play the halftime show to agree to pay the NFL a share of their later earnings. NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl. I do not mean to be obtuse or fractious, but surely there is some website or authority that clearly and directly addresses and settles the issue.

The NFL never HAD A production contract with MTV. At that time CBS and MTV were both owned by ViaCom, and ViaCom said they wanted MTV to do that halftime show, and the league said it’s your halftime, it was the first time MTV got their hands on the show. After the mess they indicated that if no network under the same corporate umbrella at MTV, thus also making it the LAST time.

They threw the idea about, but it generated a lot of bad press. It HAS been clearly and directly settled. There were hundreds of pages of discussion of this after the wardrobe. The league does not run the halftime.

Do you believe that the NFL would allow MTV or anyone else to produce the Super Bowl halftime show without being under a contract? Can you cite a reliable source for this assertion or for your claim that the networks choose the Super Bowl halftime act, not the NFL? Or are you privy to the undisclosed terms of the contract between the NFL and its network partners? As Mark Twain once wrote, so far we have a large return of speculation based on a small investment of fact.

They were under contract to CBS, who themselves were under contract to the NFL.

I HAVE cited reliable sources, you just won’t accept that you’re wrong.

What cites? Bare assertion of fact does not qualify.

Hell at this point I could bring in Goodell himself to explain it to you and you’d STILL deny it.

it’s been proven enough for me. Have a good day.

Instead of snark and misdirection, you could just send me copies or links to the contracts or authoritative articles that you insist support your comments. Call me a nuisance in wanting proof, but it is kinda like asking for proof of man-made global warming before signing on to belief that there is any such warming.

One of the truly complete offensive teams - Starr’s Packers. The Seahawks appear to be back. Vikings, even with their injuries, should have won.

Patriots lost to the Eagles. I don’t root for the Eagles, but when I do, its against that whining baby QB in Boston.

Good to see Oklahoma in the playoff. I can’t stand anything from Michigan of late, and so while I admire that tenacity and resourcefulness of Michigan State, I wish there was a way for both Alabama and Michigan State to lose.

Then there’s the Raiders. Maybe next year. Carr is the real deal, and between Jack Del Rio and Norton, Jr., they may be able to flip that around.

The Rams should return to LA where they belong. They’ve tried moving the Raiders once. Stupid idea. Oakland, like Green Bay, deserves a team. They are the people’s teams in a way that Dallas never really was.

Coldplay is England’s revenge for the NFL giving them all those Jaguars games.

FReepers don’t like Coldplay? I mean, I do think a harder rocking band might be a better match, but Coldplay writes and performs really good stuff.

You guys seriously prefer Janet Jackson to Coldplay?

Yes, country!!! Would be a great choice.

I could go either way — strong R and R - maybe Red Hot Chili Peppers? Or else country!
