Two cubs were found in Russia's Sakha Republic last August in a near-perfect state thanks to the deep-freeze conditions where they lay.

Scientists are attempting to clone extinct Ice Age lion cubs by finding DNA in the remains of the creatures.

Researchers hope to find living tissues containing DNA in the remains, which will allow them to recreate the now extinct Ice Age cave lion.

The 12,000-year-old cave lion cubs were found frozen in ice last year- so well preserved their whiskers are still bristling.

The pair of prehistoric predators, named Uyan and Dina, are the most unspoilt examples of this ancient big cat species ever found.

I sort of think there might some extinct animals that should remain so. Large lions fall into that category.

I wholeheartedly agree. Ligers are terrifyingly huge already. Why would we need something even bigger?

If extinct animals are cloned, isn’t there a danger of bringing back diseases that the modern environment can’t handle?

No. You’re cloning one cell, not the spectrum of bacteria and viruses that may have inhabited the entire animal. . .

Trump should have them cloned, have Mexico pay for it, then have them patrol the wall.

That would be awesome. Unfortunately, clones of two animals would not be sufficient to preserve the species. But it would be cool to see these extinct animals brought to life.

My vote is for the Dodo. I have read accounts that they were downright delicious, so damned delicious they were all eaten. Not much meat on a pigeon, so Dodo for me.
