California minimum wage hike hits L.A. apparel industry: 'The exodus has begun'
Los Angeles Times ^ | 4/15/2016 | Shan Li and Natalie Kitroeff

Los Angeles was once the epicenter of apparel manufacturing, attracting buyers from across the world to its clothing factories, sample rooms and design studios.

But over the years, cheap overseas labor lured many apparel makers to outsource to foreign competitors in far-flung places such as China and Vietnam.

Now, Los Angeles firms are facing another big hurdle — California's minimum wage hitting $15 an hour by 2022 — which could spur more garment makers to exit the state.

Last week American Apparel, the biggest clothing maker in Los Angeles, said it might outsource the making of some garments to another manufacturer in the U.S., and wiped out about 500 local jobs. The company still employs about 4,000 workers in Southern California.

Let the liberal idiots live the consequences of their own actions and don’t bail them out. Let them suffer. It’s the only way they will mature into responsible adults.

It’s the only way they will mature into responsible adults.

Assuming they will ever mature into responsible adults under any conditions is quite a leap of faith.

Just spent a couple of nights in downtown L.A. Could be beautiful but the druggies and homeless call for a mayor like Rudy. Pathetic.

California has shown a complete inability to govern itself and needs to be demoted back to a Territory with a Provincial Governor appointed by Washington.

I guess that means no more American Apparel billboards featuring very young boys and girls in their underwear.

Even the middle class is a big advocate of higher minimum wages: they don’t understand the fine print.

It’s very simple. If you have three employees working for ten dollars an hour, you fire one of them and pay the other two to do the work of three for the new government mandated fifteen dollars per hour. Then the government increases taxes on those two to pay for the one you fired to sit on his ass. Then all three vote Democrat.

Wow, who could have seen this coming. And ironically, idiot liberals play right into the hands of the fat cat multinationals that they hate so much, who CAN move jobs out of the country at will, leaving smaller, more creative US-based companies without those resources to suffer. Sounds like a plan! - for complete and total economic decay.
