The remake of Roots has gained widespread critical acclaim – but not from Snoop Dogg, who posted a short video on Instagram on Monday criticising the show, and suggesting that African Americans should not watch it.
In the video, the rapper said that he was fed up with watching films and TV shows that depicted the abuse of black Americans. “12 Years a Slave, Roots, Underground, I can’t watch none of that shit,” Snoop Dogg said, also taking aim at the Steve McQueen-directed Oscar-winning film and the WGN TV series about slaves in Georgia escaping via an underground railroad, which was recently renewed for a second season.

Good question. Why aren't there more good movies about successful black people? Thomas Sowell, for example, has had a very interesting life, and he's a smart-mouthed curmudgeon who would make a great lead character.

I’m with ol Snoop on this. I never saw a minute of Roots, 12 Years a Slave or The Cosby Show. I did watch The Jeffersons and Sanford and Son.
BTW there have been no slaves here for 150+ years. But there are people who never suffered that way who are trying to get a free ride today because they had slave ancestors.

The last African born freed slave in the US died about 1930. In the lifetime of our parents/grandparents. Not so long ago.
