I'm watching a collection of old news footage from the JFK assassination on the History Channel right now, and was wondering if any Freepers have any theories about what really happened. I figure with the great wealth of knowledge here on Free Republic, there's got to be some pretty good theories waiting to be shared.

On Sunday night, the History channel be gins a remarkable three-hour, two-part program on the assassination of JFK, perhaps the best on that subject you will ever see. And even if you think you've seen it all and can't bear to see it again, well, then think again.

First of all, I am not much of a TV watcher of shows having to do with past blowhard philosophers and such, but my son is learning about planets at school now and we decided to watch The History Channel one night, just for the heck of it. So, I was watching a program there about a week ago referring to Nostradamus' ('Nostra' for short) predictions, followed by a program regarding Leonardo DaVinci's predictions, and I was perplexed by something that Nostra "saw" in one of his many visions, which included visions of what or who would be causing chaos...

… or at least, by the ad agencies. The History Channel is a generally well-respected brand in the United States. The shows routinely make “water-cooler” conversation at sites like Redstate. Indeed, the sister networks like The Military Channel are staples among conservative viewers, as anyone who spends any time around conservatives and veterans is well aware. So you can imagine my surprise reading an article earlier this week titled “Anti-American History Channel Ads You Won’t See In The US Or Online” at the Business Insider website. There were three images included which are, to say the least, inflammatory. The campaign,...

SEATTLE — The state Department of Natural Resources has seized more than two dozen logs it says a timber crew featured on the History Channel's reality show 'Ax Men' salvaged illegally. DNR chief enforcement officer Larry Raedel says officers served a search warrant Friday on S&S Aqua Logging to retrieve timber the company had pulled from the Hoquiam River. Raedel says the company didn't have a permit to salvage those logs, and DNR officer were tipped off after watching the show. Calls to the company were not immediately returned. The company is one of several timber crews featured in the...

"Due to overwhelming viewer demand, an encore presentation of '102 Minutes that changed America' will have an encore presentation Sunday evening Sept. 14, at 8 pm/7 Central" This was a message displayed Saturday night while watching another program. A prize-winning classinc, not to be missed by any American who lived through those historic 48 hours. The first presentation on 9/11 snuck up on me, and I recorded it. Many others missed it entirely. I am calling family and friends. Highly recommended. History Channel Link

Heads up! Tomorrow night (February 26, 2008 at 9:00 PM), the History Channel will air a new segment of their Universe series that could be very interesting. It will try to address what was before the Big Bang. This is a subject I don't see anyway of discussing without raising religious beliefs.

Saw a documentary, "Grounded on 9-11" on the History Channel a few days ago that mentioned something major about 9-11 that I have not heard before. At 9:00AM on 9-11 United Airlines sent to all planes a warning message regarding the other hijacks. On United Flight 23, that was on the runway, the captain decided on his own not to take off. He fakes a mechanical problem and returns to the gate! When the passengers were asked to exit the plan three Middle Eastern men, or possibly as many as six, refuse to follow the request to deplane. Security is...

About 11:30 Central Time (History Channel) As my wife was sitting in our study grading papers I happened to walk in. On the TV was a show about the Vietnam war and it immediately struck me when some self proclaimed expert stated that the “Domino Theory” which was used as a justification for continuance of intervention was hand waved away and the pundit literally stated: “As we all know today, that didn’t occur.” Excuse me? Does this guy have a clue about what happened in Cambodia? What happened in Laos? Or who attacked Thailand? Who has naval bases in Vietnam...

Reagan's War, Not Charlie Wilson's Media Bias: Hollywood would have us believe that Democrats defeated the evil empire in Afghanistan, and that President Reagan played only a minor role and even helped pave the way to 9/11. If you think Hollywood's idea of a Christmas movie being one about the Soviet defeat in Afghanistan is strange, even stranger is the plot line. "Charlie Wilson's War," which opened Friday, manages to reduce the president who won the Cold War to a background footnote. Charlie Wilson was a pro-abortion, Equal Rights Amendment-supporting congressman widely known as "the liberal from Lufkin." To his...

The History Channel is running a pretty good special on the assorted groups behind the 9-11 conspiracy theories. I decided to take a look at some of these sites, particularly the site devoted to the "documentary" called "Loose Change". This is the one that Charlie Sheen is supposed to be considering narrating. What I found was the usual collection of goofballs, morons and runaway nutjobs. It seems no amount of factual information can influence these people. What they display is the expected amount of self-delusional fantasies and paranoia. What I found that I DID'T expect (but should have) was that,...

Fake History on the "History Channel" The History Channel in Israel [channel 42 on `Arutsey Zahav] gets most of its broadcast material from American and British sources, unfortunately. It seems that most comes from the American History Channel. This material --these "historical" films-- reflect the biases and conventional lies of American Establishment and British propaganda. And this includes treatment of Jewish and Israeli historical matters. The problem for us in Israel is that this Anglo-American material is used uncritically, broadcast uncritically, without correction. The films are broadcast with the original English-language narration, plus Hebrew subtitles which do not diverge from...

Shootout : Iwo Jima: Fight to the Death. Friday November 03 08:00 PM The Battle of Iwo Jima is best known for the famous flag-raising photograph taken on Mt. Suribachi, but there's an untold story behind the picture. Just before the photo was snapped, there was a bloody shootout on the mountain crest. This is just one of the true stories told by veterans of one of the Pacific's bloodiest battlefields, where 70,000 US Marines fought 21,000 entrenched Japanese over eight square miles of death. Follow the men of the 5th Pioneer Battalion as they fight off a savage, last-ditch...

For over 25 years, "Death to America" has been the rallying cry of the Iranian government, but it's only recently that the threat has become chillingly real and the Islamic Republic of Iran has emerged as perhaps the most clear and present danger to American security. This special will explore the once proud military tradition of Iran, its recent decline in power, and the country's struggle to gain a place among the world's super powers. We will also examine evidence that shows Iran is secretly pursuing a nuclear weapon and just may intend to use on the United States or...

The History Channel is showing a documentary hosted by Oscar dela Hoya Friday 9/29/06 at 7:00pm central time. It looks like a propoganda piece for Mexico. A description of the show from the History Channel's website is below. At a time when immigration reform continues to be one of the most heated topics in political and business circles, this 2-hour special reexamines the controversial war that resulted in the United States taking control of what was nearly half of Mexico's territory. Featuring lavish reenactments, and interviews with both Mexican and American historians to ensure accuracy from both nations' points of...

I just watched a one hour special on the 19 POSes that hijacked the four airplanes on 9-11. The show went into great detail about their backgrounds and their flight training in the US. However, not once did I hear the word "Muslim," just vague references to "terrorism" and "crime" and "anger." Shame on you, History Channel. You have become a PC loser.

Did Moses really part the Red Sea like it says in the Old Testament? What about the Nile turning blood red or the plagues that finally compelled Pharaoh to free the Israelites from slavery? Did those things actually happen? These are among the questions Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici attempts to answer in "The Exodus Decoded" which premieres Aug. 20, 8-9:30 p.m. (check local listings) on cable's History Channel. Challenging opinions that dismiss those events as myth, the thought-provoking documentary uses investigative journalism aided by modern science to examine archaeological and geological evidence in separating historical fact from fiction. Media insiders are asking if the History Channel bowed to political pressure in pulling a documentary suspected of detailing Turkish atrocities against Armenians. "Ottoman Empire: The War Machine” mysteriously disappeared from the History Channel schedule on June 22, the day it was to premiere – even though the network had run promos just days before and pre-sold DVDs on its Web site. The documentary recounts the six-century reign of the Ottomans, and their empire, the precursor of modern-day Turkey. "Although none have seen the documentary, critics suspect that it likely covers the death of more than a million Armenians at...

I saw this last week and wanted to recommend it for those who did not see, tape, Tivo or DVD it. Although the first hour (French and Indian War) was a bit more negative in terms of Washington's strategy and sophistication (yeah, he shouldn't have built Fort Necessity on low ground), he was a mere kid at the time in charge of the Virginia Militia, and the only one in the colony to step up. Also, the depiction of events in Jumonville Glen is antithetical to what I have read in several different sources, that is, Washington never gave the...

Developed in 1947 as an image to symbolize urgency in the Cold War and the threat of nuclear disaster, the mission of the Doomsday Clock has expanded to include non-nuclear global security issues. Maintained by the Board of Directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, it's based at the University of Chicago. In response to world events, they move the clock's minute hand closer to or away from midnight--doomsday. In this hour, we cover the clock's history, its effectiveness, and its critics.

In their series, "10 Days That Changed America", the History Channel will focus on the Scopes trial. As they put it, "The sensational courtroom battle between William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow over the teaching of evolution in a small Tennessee town underscored a deep schism within the American psyche -- religion versus science, church versus state, elitism versus populism."

The History Channel will debut four new series during the second quarter. May will bring Mega Disasters, which “visits the sites of previous disasters and examines the potential for history to repeat itself.” Two series will debut in June: The Revolution and American Eats. The Revolution goes back to the roots of the American Revolution, covering the signing of the Declaration of Independence, victory on the battlefield...

Interview With Father Thomas Williams, Theology Dean ROME, APRIL 5, 2006 (Zenit.org).- The National Geographic Society has announced its intentions to publish an English translation of an ancient text called "The Gospel of Judas" later this month. The 31-page manuscript, written in Coptic, purportedly surfaced in Geneva in 1983 and has only been translated now. ZENIT asked Legionary Father Thomas D. Williams, dean of theology at the Regina Apostolorum university in Rome, to comment on the relevance of the discovery. Q: What is the "Gospel of Judas"? Father Williams: Though the manuscript still must be authenticated, it likely represents a...

Vikram Jayanti wanted to call his portrait of the nation's 16th president "The Darkness of Abraham Lincoln." In fact, he said, that was the production's working title for nearly three years. Rather than create a biographical documentary, he planned to show how one man "transcended depression and turned it into light." Jayanti's three-hour film airs under a simpler title, "Lincoln," at 8 tonight on the History Channel, but it still focuses on the traumas the president endured over his lifetime, ending with a war that claimed more American lives than any other - including his own. The New York-born filmmaker...

Did anyone catch the History Channel's documentary of Lincoln last night? I, along with my wife and 7-year-old, sat down to enjoy a historical documentary of one of our great presidents. That sounded pretty safe. However, I changed the channel thirty minutes into it. It delved in to Lincoln's depression, and possible causes of it. They went in to his childhood, his relationship with his father, as well as the death of Ann Rutledge. Then they talked about Joshua Speed, his roommate and friend in Springfield. This is where the historians speculated that Lincoln was a homosexual. At that, my...

The History Channel ran another one of its "specials" tonight - on Lincoln. The show seemed pretty good if a bit too pyschologically oriented, and then they did it. They had a number of buffons masquerading as "authors" who inferred that Lincoln had a homosexual relationship. After having turned off the "History" Channel before for their biased anti-Crusade epic, I now resolve to never waste my time watching that revisionist trash channel on TV again. Wednesday I'll try PBS for its "War that America" special. Hopefully they won't descend into Washington bashing over the Fort Necessity incident and the ambush...
