An FBI agent applied for a federal warrant in 2018 to seize a fabled cache of U.S. government gold he said was “stolen during the Civil War” and hidden in a Pennsylvania cave, saying the state might take the gold for itself if the feds asked for permission, according to court documents unsealed Thursday.

Easier to ask forgiveness later than to ask permission now?
A popular notion in some quarters.
Didn’t know it could be applied in cases where millions of dollars of goods are snatched.
Yeah..... I’ll bet. More likely scenario is they wanted to get their grubby little hands on something untraceable to fund more mischief.
Sounds like a “Have Gun Will Travel” or “Perry Mason” (the original not the misuse of the name they are using now) plot.
Is the revised, like history, of Perry Mason still being shown somewhere?

There is anew TV Series by that name on HBO and they make him more of a private dick than a lawyer. Instead of being solid, principled and gruffly elegant attorney this one is a run down bum who is lands some sort of big case.
Big no thanks for me. Raymond Burr brought the figure to life and that is the only Perry Mason characterization I want. This is just a reuse of the name and nothing else. The Gardner family just wants the bucks and sold the original writer down the river.
My wife watches Perry Mason just for the clothes. I was this years old when I found out Raymond Burr was gay.
The FIBs only found ‘a small amount’ of gold, right?
FBI wanted it all to divvy up amongst themselves.
The state should realize they are dealing with the Mafbia, and act accordingly.

He handled it in about the most dignified way a guy of that generation could, from all I have read.
OMG Raymond Burr was gay REALLY?? I honestly would never have known this!!
“I found out Raymond Burr was gay.”
NOOOOO!
Perry Mason
Perry Mason & Paul Drake
Della Street is the brunette on top right, and the blonde is an evangelist as I remember, and that was the big case he took on maybe. .
I think I watched it in 2020
Sounds GHASTLY.
Gangsters at the FBI at work again.

One of the first in Hollywood to come out. Kind of a strange story but he handled it as well as could be imagined for the 50s/60s.
There was another actor, Warren William who played Perry Mason in a number of 1030s movies as an intelligent jokester. Very fun to watch and the character had dignity. The difference is Burr’s Perry would leave the cops in the dust and just celebrate by chuckling and taking Burger to lunch.
Williams’ Perry would laugh at the DA and cops and call them fools to their face while recounting all the mistakes they made and all the traps he laid for them that they stepped in. But in such a funny way you it was not spiking the ball as we know it.
