When news broke that John Cho’s Hikaru Sulu would be revealed in the upcoming “Star Trek Beyond” as gay — in a tribute to original Sulu actor George Takei — the revelation was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Except, as it turns out, from Takei himself.
“I think it’s really unfortunate,” the veteran actor and gay icon — who came out to much fanfare in 2005 –tells The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s going to bomb. It switched directors twice, had numerous last minute changes, and is using the tired “Enterprise is destroyed” gimmick.
They probably inserted the queer thing just to blame people like us for not seeing it ... The new Ghostbusters will be another horrible film that’ll be “too ahead of its time for white males” or whatever.
It’s pathetic really ... Don’t gays just want to blend in? Why all the fanfare?

I have no desire to coerce others to do or not do anything, if I expect never to be coerced into accepting what to me is unacceptable.
Ghostbusters is such a simple concept with a ridiculous number of possibilities to make a quality film. I find it almost impossible to screw something like that up. Just get 4 different people together (one being a smoking hot chick), give them proton packs, and capture ghosts. Capture enough a d you piss off a giant ghost that’ll give you one hell of an ending. The new pinball machine does just that with the old cast and it works great!
Star Trek has to be a bottom of the barrel scraper. There is hardly any ad campaign and it’s being released at the end of July. I have a feeling it’s going to be Trek V bad ... And it kills me to say that as I’ve liked JJ’s take in general. However, again, they just don’t seem to get the fact that not everything has to have some kind of overt PC message. Just get a rotten bad guy, a sexy alien chick, some cool ships, and save Earth. Save all the depth for the TV series.
I don’t know how you put up with those dipshits out there Max. :-). Well, I’m sure the pay is good :-). But if I worked in an industry where James Cameron gets accolades for a puke spewing, predictable story like avatar, I’d go on a Falling Down spree.

I would particularly apply that to new TV series, too. I've been disgusted (and disappointed) with unpleasant surprises way too often, the last decade or so. And the trend persists.

I’m pleased he’s so into honoring Roddenberry. I doubt the Star Trek creator was that into homosexual rights. Was Roddenberry aware that he was homosexual?
WTF? Sulu displayed heterosexuality on the show, and had a daughter who appeared in one of the movies (which was written before the idea of homos having their own biological children came up, I doubt even lib Gene Roddenberry himself would have imagined that).
So the pieces of garbage behind this movie are taking the position that Sulu from the show was in the closet? Or did George Kirk dying in this alternate universe somehow not only alter the age of Chekov but caused Sulu to get hit with a fag ray that turned him into a poof?
And all this is a “tribute” to Takei, who doesn’t want it and told them that? And they did it anyway? Uckingfay liberal idiots.
They just HAD to put a fag in this one, the fag lobby was incensed they didn’t do it already, and they couldn’t be bothered with an original character so they disgrace an existing character.
Why not have Spock as queer instead, the new actor is. He could say how doing it in a man’s rear where waste comes out is “logical” because venereal disease is fun.

Depends on the story line, which doesn’t look too promising. It’ll show up on TV soon enough. This will be the first one I skip seeing the theatrical release.
I love that one.
