Say "thanks" to a Veteran here.
Thanks, Pop.
Combat Engineer, US Army, Korean War Veteran
Gramps.....survived the Hedgerows in Normandy as US Army Recon
Pops...survived the rivers in Vietnam piloting a Swift Boat
Uncle...survived the fire onboard the USS Oriskany
All gone now, but today is a good day to think of them.
Thanks, Uncle Dick.
Amphibious Tractor Driver, US Marine Corps, WWII Veteran.
We also thank veterans both in the military and certain agencies whose service was done with great bravery and in complete secrecy and anonymity.
The debt we owe all of our veterans is deep and unpayable.
Thanks, Uncle Roland.
Forward Observer, US Army, Vietnam Veteran.
Thanks, 1SGT Hopkins.
Tanker, US Army, Vietnam War Veteran.
Veterans families deserve thanks too. I have been reading my grandfather’s letters to my grandmother from 1944, etc.
He sent one every day most of the time. She was thrust into raising a child, taking care of a farm, and a business when all she had been groomed to do was be a mother and housewife.
“I hope you don’t get cheated when you sell the hay” “Don’t worry about taking in boarders..we will make it work” etc.
I’m thankful to the many men in my family who served in WW2, Korea and with later generations, Viet Nam.
I saw an article a few days ago written by a veteran.
Hunter Garth in the NYT. Title was “Please Don’t Thank Me For My Service.” I guess he thinks people say this in a trite, shallow manner, not knowing anything about the real sacrifices and compromises a veteran has had to make. One of his comments was “I pulled the trigger, you didn’t. Don’t take that away from me.”.
Sigh....I don’t know what to say about that. I AM thankful for their service. That doesn’t mean I am worshiping them like mythical Gods or super heroes. I also served, albeit at peacetime, so I have an inkling of the sacrifices they had to make. My attitude is if the average person wants to show some kindness to you, then be diplomatic, polite and let them do it. It is not meant to take any glory away from the vet. No one can do that.
Thank you, Dad. 1924-2015.
WWII ETO, Purple Heart. Silver Star.
Lifelong champion of veterans.
Thanks, LTC Antoine.
Cavalry Officer, US Army, Vietnam War Veteran.
Thanks Dad. TBM pilot WWII.
Thanks, COL Korkin.
Cavalry Officer, US Army, Vietnam War Veteran.
I had the honor to overhear a veteran and reservist at dinner last night, and covered he and his Venezuelan wife’s tab for sushi.
:-)
As a vet tell us more... about the Venezuelan wife.
Laz would hit it ^ 10
I often fume at the government’s way of honoring our veterans is to declare it a national holiday and allow all govt. employees to take the day off while all the actual veterans in the private sector still have to work............
There ougtta be a law ....
That would really be a worthwhile one.
I went to put flags on my husband’s father and grandfathers because there is nothing on their headstones to ID them as veterans but there no flags on any of the other graves this year but luckily I had an extra for my father.
Thank you.
And you’re welcome.
