An 18-year-old man was rushed into surgery Sunday afternoon after police say his father shot him with a shotgun when an argument over going to the store for a can of tobacco turned heated at their home on Quiet Avenue.
Horry County police were called to a Conway Medical Center emergency room at 12:30 p.m. for a victim who arrived there with a gunshot wound, according to Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police Department.
The young man told police he was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun.
At first the victim stated that it was accidental, but after further investigation, he stated that his father had shot him during an altercation, according to a police report released Monday. The victim stated that he and his father were having an argument over going to the store for a can of tobacco. During the altercation a fight ensued inside the house.
The young man told police he went outside, but his father followed him and shot him one time with a shotgun loaded with bird shot, according to the report. The bird shot entered both thighs, according to an arrest warrant.
The victims mother rushed him to the hospital, and he was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center for surgery.
Forty-one-year-old Thomas Milvie Lewis of Conway was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and the unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Oh come on! If he meant to kill him he wouldn’t have used birdshot!
> If he meant to kill him he wouldnt have used birdshot!
And he wouldn’t have shot him in the “thighs”, either.
Quiet Lane. There’s the problem.
Years ago when I was a young neurosurgery resident in northwest Philly there was a family went by the name “Love”. There were always turning up in the ER. Not quite as loved as one might hope.
That’s what I was thinking. And the younger generation really are a bunch of wimps. Whatever happened to digging it out yourself with your pocket knife?
at least it wasn’t over a pair of sneakers /s
I thought this was going to be a smoking-related death, but apparently not.
That sure was not quiet.
Stuff like this has been happening constantly, but it might even turn more frequent in upcoming days. Our illiberal liberals (famous whipping boy, or in this case shooting boy) are a common go-between between hell and here. As Christ approaches, the demons get frantic.
I’m glad it was nothing worse, but it sounds like people need to learn some lessons about self control.
Conway is the seedy side of Myrtle Beach, although many are doing their level best to make Myrtle Beach worse than Conway with drugs and violence.
This is not redneck, this is trash.
These are godless people.
God isn’t the one wanting godless people to keep on being godless people.
BOY!
Go get a switch!
Well it says right on the can “Not a safe substitute
for cigarettes.” Guess they are right.
Moral of the story; don’t get between a man and his Copenhagen.
Sounds like the father of the year!
MB is a couple hours from me and I haven’t been there in a few years. I have zero desire to go.
The last time was for a photo gig. It was depressing seeing the boarded up hotels.
There is some recovery but the golf business continues to tread water. Ironically, a building boom that later became a bust kept many courses from being bulldozed already as they were built to be show-pony loss leaders for real estate sales but the real estate market went horribly wrong. Many courses still wind through undeveloped ie natural landscapes. Not a lot of fun for the sales gerbils but a bonus for the golfer who seeks a peaceful round.
Still, a seemingly unstoppable flow of Yankees has transformed the area into more of an upstate-type environment with the usual numbing additions of Walmarts, fast food, etc. And, as usual, the Yanks have brought their problems and their attitudes with them and spend many hours whining and moaning.
Many new arrivals are rather tight-fisted. Living anywhere south of MB means more expensive retirement real estate and Florida as a whole is viewed as a write-off due to the immigration problem. So they put up with a mild winter for 2 months in the Grand Strand area.
