Fox 29 in Philly wished a happy 73rd birthday to Boxing great Joe Frazier. Unfortunately Joe wasn't watching because has has been dead for 6 years.
Just more fake news.
Only his body is dead. His spirit/soul live on. Happy Birthday to one of two boxers to beat Cassius Clay in his prime.
Smokin Joe!!
Amazing how George Foreman did the best out of everybody.
Won a title in his mid 40s, made a fortune on TV, and still no signs of brain damage.
I heard George Foreman one time say the scariest and toughest fighter he ever met was Joe Frazier.
George said you would hit Joe full on the face with your best shot and Joe would shake his head a little and smile.
Tough SOB, but boxing is generally a ticket to an early grave sad to say.
Maybe they saw his name on the voter rolls.
He had the best left hook I’ve seen in a heavyweight. Loved it when he beat Ali with it in ‘71.
LOL!! So true :)
Typical morning show. They stuff all sorts of factoids, myths and rumors of myths just to fill up air time before the next commercial. A good Program Director will have somebody research how these ‘birthday boys’ are doing today.
If anyone had thought to ask any boxing fan, they would have found out. There are less boxing fans today than in the past. Some have never watched a bout. Mixed Martial Arts is still on the upswing.
Yep, he literally left the floor when he fired his left hook.
Oh yeah...that left would come in from the stock yards
That was George being polite after he brutally destroyed Frazier in less than two rounds. Six knockdowns IIRC.
It was that fight where we got the famous Cosell call of “Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!”
That became a meme in my childhood long before Al Gore invented the Internet.
“... and still no signs of brain damage.”
He named all of his children George.
Both of them ended up in the hospital after that fight.
I was there in the San Diego Sports Arena when Ken Norton defeated Ali. Broke his jaw they said,
Wow! that is some great IWT (I was there).
According to SUCKER PUNCH, Ali and his handlers underestimated Ken Norton in spite of his physique (which was second to none).
Ali would call Joe a “Gorilla”. Can you imagine today if somebody called a black man a “Gorilla” like that?
