Baker was booked into an Arkansas jail shortly after 8:20 a.m. Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has been arrested in Arkansas.

Online records show that Mayfield, 21, was arrested on complaints of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Washington County (Arkansas) Jail shortly after 8:20 a.m. Saturday.

"We are aware of the matter and are learning the details," said Mike Houck, OU's assistant athletics director for communications. "We don't have any other information at this time."

Mayfield was released from the jail at 11:23 a.m. According to a booking report, an officer responded to a report of an assault and battery shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The officer tried to talk to Mayfield, who started to yell profanities and was causing a scene, the report said.

The officer tried to talk to Mayfield, who started to yell profanities and was causing a scene, the report said.

And that how things escalate.

The proper response is “Yes sir”, “No Sir”, “How can I help you?”, etc...

Looks like Oakland has found their replacement quarterback.

Oakland doesn't need a replacement QB - in Derek Carr, they have one of the brightest young talents in the league and they're set for years at the position. He's also a model citizen.

Mayfield apparently cost himself an invitation to the 2018 NFL combine, at the least. These days, given how risk-averse NFL teams are, he may have cost himself a career.

I find this easy to believe, as Mayfield has a big attitude on the field. A personality like that has to stay away from the spirits, or this will be only the first of many encounters.

Sad to hear this though, he’s fun to watch. He’s one hell of a football player.

I am all in for OU, and always a fan of its tradition, and reputation, but expect some of the best college players, anywhere, to emulate what they see in the NFL culture.

At this pace, look for some high school talent to emulate their college heroes, like Manziel, or like Baker.

It is a tolerance for this low class behavior that has to stop, before football gets benched permanently in schools and colleges.

Coaches and facilities at all levels of play are buying trouble with real money. Money and contracts trump civility and fine character, opting for nothing but talent, and protecting really bad boys because of it.

I have no objection to a zero tolerance for this very sort of behavior and gor ousting star players.

Come on. Just one has to fall and it’s a real message to all colleges to do the same, or answer why they do not.

I love to watch Baker on the field, but he signaled, for me anyway, that he has problems with some of his personal choices.

The girls hanging on his arm, as “girlfriends”, were always found online promoting how few clothes they could wear. I noticed the behavior of the girls Baker was seeing regularly. It said more about him than it did them.

Now comes this escalation, another example of “anything goes” with Baker. He is making statements with his behavior. I don’t think it’s acceptable, or deserving of tolerance.

BOOMER!

Meh, I bet guys like Bobby Layne and Kenny Stabler could have drunk both Mayfield and Manziel under the table.

Sometimes character matters. But, if you’re Heisman quality, not so much.

Jameis Winston, Johnny Manziel, for example.

Oklahoma City radio reporter Dylan Buckingham has obtained an excerpt of the police report:

“I asked Mayfield to stop and talk to me. Mayfield stated he was trying to break up an altercation that had occurred prior to my arrival. I asked Mayfield to stay so I could take his statement for my report. While talking to the other party involved. Mayfield was yelling profanities and was causing a scene. Mayfield was intoxicated. When he first came over to me. he had difficulty walking down a couple stairs. Mayfield‘s speech was slurred and he had the odor of intoxicants coming from his person. The front of Mayfield’s clothing was covered in food. I told Mayfield to come over to me. When l gave that command. Mayfield began to walk away from me. I repeatedly told him to stop. Mayfield then began to sprint away. I chased alter him. Mayfield was tackled to the ground. While on the ground. I gave repeated orders for him to place his arms behind his back. Mayfield kept his arms locked tight and would not allow me to place his arms behind his back. I eventually forced Mayfield’s arms behind his back. I then placed him in handcuffs.”

Ha, ha, I’m an OU fan, and I think that’s funny. No wonder coaches drink. These players are so dumb. They throw their future away doing stupid stuff. Amazing.
