The author of the popular travel memoir Eat, Pray, Love held a commitment ceremony with her partner almost one year after she divorced her husband. Writer Elizabeth Gilbert, 47, and her partner Rayya Elias, also an author, held a 'simple and spontaneous ceremony of love' in New York City Tuesday. Gilbert separated from her husband of nine years, José Nunes, in July last year after she discovered her feelings for Elias, her best friend of more than a decade.

I remember when trailers were shown for the movie adaptation. I thought what a self-centered horrible movie it was going to be and the book must have been as awful. I wonder how many lives this women has ruined with her selflessness.

I thought The original ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ was written because her first husband left her.

"...Eat, Pray, Love..."

Have heard of this book in years past...yet couldn't tell you what it is about. Or even what kind of book it is.

Oh how sweet. Is the guy on the hook to pay the b!tch big bucks, as he always is? Did anybody mention the word “adultery”?

What’s with this commitment ceremony horse blank??? Homosexuals can get married now. They worked hard to turn society’s view of marriage upside down so they can get married, not just have a “legal arrangement” or even a “civil union”; it had to be marriage or nothing for the homosexual.

She’s betraying the homosexual cause by not getting married to her girl. Doesn’t she know that???

I read it when it came out. It's about a woman's journey after her husband leaves her. She visits 3 different locations to heal- Italy where she spends her time enjoying the food, another location (can't remember) where she joins up with monks and learns meditation and praying, and a 3rd location which I believe was Thailand where she finally feels content and finds love. She married the man she fell in love with.

But, left him last year after realizing her best friend had cancer ad she realized she was in love with her.

She left her first husband, Michael Cooper

She then married a loser (in the movie he was depicted as handsome), who she finally also left.

Meanwhile, the husband she dropped the first time married a younger, hotter woman: Canadian diplomat Béatrice Maillé.

He gets a younger, hotter wife that his ex-wife would be attracted to as well? I call that a win/win.

She’s going to have to think of a weirder, more self absorbed situation to get herself into to write another book about next time. I suggest a gorilla.

Elizabeth Gilbert represents everything that’s wrong with women today.

I couldn’t make it through “Eat, Pray, Love” all the way, but I read the early part where she dumps her husband basically because she has become bored with him.

I can understand ending a marriage over alcoholism, abuse, abandonment or adultery.

But boredom? Of course, these “inspiring” divorce stories always sugar-coat things. “I needed space,” “I needed to find myself,” or the ever-popular “I wasn’t happy.”

Someone like Elizabeth Gilbert is too shallow to realize that happiness comes — if at all — relatively late in life when you can look back and say “I honored the commitments I made. I didn’t betray my nearest and dearest, and I never took advantage of someone weaker than me.”

At 59, and as one of the last Old-School Bachelors, I thank God I never got mixed up with a woman as fickle and scatter-brained as Elizabeth Gilbert.

Self destructive feminists need no help from this woman to ruin their lives. That particular phenomenon precedes even Helen Reddy’s idiotic “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar” drivel.

The activist fringe, sure, but no group is as monolithic as that.

It was probably more about the option of getting married than a duty to marry.

In this case, the girlfriend is terminally ill, so maybe they didn't want to take the final step.
