Now Trump is goading Comey to come forward with any tape he(Comey) might have made by calling him out as the liar he is. If Comey comes out with a tape to prove Trump said what he claims, then he outs himself as bugging a conversation with his boss the president of the United States(is that a crime?). If Comey doesn’t have a tape to prove Trump’s claims false, Trump has effectively branded him a liar... This could also flush out a third party(with a tape) to come to Comey’s defense equally bad for the third party.

The NSA probably has their own tapes of the meetings. Obama probably has copies.
I keep wondering whether or not that was a warning against Comey producing a recording.
I think Trump’s “tapes” comment was a joke, intended to tweak the Fake Media. They are obsessed with Nixon / Watergate, so why not goad them into a fury? That’s classic Trump; I don’t think there were any tapes.
Trump make those comments about recordings/taping based on the fact that the White House was not considered SECURE and therefore Trump was hosting meetings in Marlargo for ensured privacy. Trump had every right to believe the NSA, DoJ or FBI had bugged his office. Until the security upgrades are made to the White House (Obama delayed them for over a year), every conservation is suspect.

I suspect Trump’s people have collected an extensive file with lots of proof of corruption on Comey. All President Trump had to do was place a couple of pages from his file in front of him.
I believe Comey was truly afraid of Trump after the one on one meeting. I do not think it was what Trump said. More like ... Comey realized after that meeting Trump was not a pushover like the rest of the republicans.
Everything the POTUS says is taped so there is no misunderstanding of what his orders are. If he decided to not record when talking to Comey I would be shocked. I knew 4 star generals in the AF back in the 70s that everything they said was taped for the same reason.
I’m going conspiracy theory to the hilt. Trump got the tapes from Comeys office. Comey wrote the memos after he was fired because he had nothing else.

I think you are mistaken about New York’s law on recording. NY is a one person consent state. As long as DJT consented, any recording is legal.

His tweet made it sound as if he didn't know if he was taped or else he may have tweeted "Listen to the tape"
