t’s clear once again that Trump doesn’t really understand how solar works. From his words, he appears to believe the mere production of energy will somehow generate revenue, ignoring the fact someone has to buy the energy it produces. He didn’t explain who would be dong that – was he planning to sell the power to Mexico? The poor residents of south Texas border towns? Who will be purchasing the electricity and at what price?

President Trump knows EXACTLY how solar works, which is why he is against it; BUT
With the obstructionist Dems not letting him do ANYTHING, he has to pay for the wall somehow to keep out the terrorists and illegals.
How does this guy not understand that?
Electric fence... don’t cross at high noon...
The author apparently doesn’t understand how the grid works.
Electricity is fungible.
But it isn’t about that, it’s about bashing Trump.
Isn’t this publication supposed to be about photovoltaics and not politics.
When did Trump say “solar will pay for wall”?
Article is written by a political idiot.
I know, let’s micromanage everything Trump does.
Actually, you go ahead.
I’ve got a life to live and the Wall is Trump’s job.
I wasn’t aware that anyone had made bulletproof solar collectors. I would expect much vandalism form those fenced out.
Absolutely correct. Power purchase agreements are how all energy is bought and sold, all part of the electrical infrastructure that has been in place for decades. Wind, solar, hydro, coal, nuclear - the generation source makes no difference, it’s a commodity.
But who’d expect shithead bloggers to know anything?
I think Trump should re brand it and change it from border wall to a green power initiative to help with climate change, then ask for Gores endorsement.
Ever heard of polycarbonate? Almost indestructible. It’s what they make bulletproof glass out of. Why not put a Lexan shield over the top of the panels? The material is clear and used for aircraft canopies so I don’t see how that wouldn’t be an answer along with other engineering details that would prevent access to the panels without actually crossing over the wall.
He’s backed them into a corner. They can admit that solar is a waste of money or get the wall. He’s using democrat math to get what he wants
Have a look at this concept:

Many solutions to FReeper concerns.
A small percentage of less than 5% would more than pay for the entire project and upkeep.
According to Pew Research:’Aug 31, 2016 - $133,552,000,000 in remittances was sent to United States from other countries in 2015. Worldwide, an estimated 582 billion U.S. dollars was sent by migrants to relatives in their home countries in 2015, a 2% decline from 2014, when the amount was $592 billion, according to economists at the World Bank....’
This is a massive wealth transfer that REQUIRES a specialized tax. at $133 Billion a year a small 5% or less transaction tax would generate Billions of dollars annually.
This is and always has been the key to paying not only for the wall, but helping balance budgets. $6 billion per year would build one heck of a wall and it is coming from those who are causing the need. Lots of them Mexicans.
Ever heard of polycarbonate?...
It would reduce the efficiency and increase the cost quite a bit.
Exactly.
Trump never said anything of the sort; it’s hard to tell where the fake news ends and the stupidly of these pseudo journalist begins.
Trump is a genius. He knows this would be folly, now he has goaded the Dims into admitting it is folly. But how can they support solar and condemn Trump for supporting solar? I have to go buy more popcorn for this weekend.
Maybe this would be better:

Exactly!
t’s clear once again that Trump doesn’t really understand how solar works.
...
He knows how it works and how humans work. Trump is painting his enemies into a corner, and making the writer of this article look stupid.
Mexico is going to pay for the wall.
