An influx of great white shark sightings has residents and tourists worried about potential encounters in the water, especially during the heart of summer.
Senior Fisheries Biologist Dr. Greg Skomal told ABC News the increase in the great white shark population off the Massachusetts coastline is correlated to the gray seal population and that numbers are expected to rise even further.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Perhaps some enterprising biologist can figure out some sort of oscillating pattern between Predators and Prey and how a rise in one causes a rise in the other, and the decline in one causes a decline in the other. Could be a ground-breaking study.

CA has a large population surfers and seals both, it happens to be the highest probability area in the US for GW shark attacks. FL has no seals that I know of and has the next highest rate of shark bite victims, but not mainly from GWs.
Yes, surfers look enough like seals to induce sharks to try a bite- usually they let up after discovering the object of their interest has no seal blubber and tastes like fiberglass and foam....
