Stevie Wonder “Takes A Knee” For America At Global Citizen Festiva
Deadline ^ | September 23, 2017 | Dino-Ray Ramos

Posted on 09/23/2017 8:04:12 PM PDT by EdnaMode

Before performing a medley of his classic hits like “Higher Ground,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours,” and “Overjoyed,” at the Global Citizen Festival, Stevie Wonder made a passionate speech about unity saying, “It is only through life we can make life happen through ourselves and each other.” He added, “Our global brothers and sisters, I didn’t come here to preach, but I’m telling you, our spirits must be in the right place all the time.”

After encouraging everyone to “stand down bigotry” and “condemn sexism,” he insisted that everyone “find love.” Then with the help of his son Kwame, he said, “I’m taking a knee for America — not just one knee, but both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, and leaders of our world” before serving up a musical meal of his hits.

The “taking of knee” may or may not have been a nod to Colin Kaepernick’s silent protest of the National Anthem during NFL games which has been making headlines as of late. Donald Trump recently went on a Twitter rant about the kneeling saying that NFL players who kneel should be fired.

The music legend has been outspoken when it comes to social and environmental advocacy. During the Hand In Hand telethon for Hurricane Harvey, Wonder made a similar speech saying regardless of race, religion, political affiliation or sexual preference that we must help those devastated by the storms. He also took a jab at climate change deniers saying, “Anyone who believes there’s no such thing as global warming must be blind or unintelligent. Lord, please save us all.”

These morons need to remember that their fame and fortune was a result of their appeal to Americans of all races, creeds, and colors. Yes, American kids bought a hell of a lot more records than kids in North Korea did /s

To now disrespect half of us is insulting and ignorant, and hurts only themselves and their legacy.

They badmouth America while collecting MILLIONS of dollars..Id be happy if President Trump came out with a new tax plan that I think even Democrats would approve of..ALL celebrities and sports stars making over 2 million dollars a year have to give 80 percent of their wealth to the Govt..let’s see how fast they start crying about how they don’t want to give up their millions for the “Oppressed” for leftist celebrities, America is only awesome when its run by Democrats like themselves, otherwise it sucks

Stevie can speak for himself.
At this point, I don’t have global brothers and sisters.

Excellent idea. They love the idea of redistribution of wealth. As long as it’s not their own wealth being redistributed.

Here’s the irony...
He’s asking his audience to pray with him before the concert and they’re applauding it.

Think about that.

If these celebrities and sports stars feel like blacks are being oppressed why don’t they use some of their mega millions and help fix the inner cities..do something about it, make their lives better..of course they won’t..not their money, they talk about hating America and hating white people but do you see ANY of them living in Watts, NO, they all live in rich white neighborhoods gee I wonder why..if they believe in redistribution of wealth, FINE, redistribute THEIR wealth I am totally fine with that..just like what Obama said “When you spread the wealth around its good for everybody” so let’s see these punks put their money where their mouth is

Poor Stevie. . .I never did care for his music. He is using the events of the day to try to be relevant. . . .as in “Look everyone, I’m still around.”

“...I didn’t come here to preach,”

When I heard the soundbite of him on the telethon for Texas it sounded EXACTLY like a church sermon with organ sounds in the background.

Ever see the bug eyed photo of Will Smith on French television saying he’d gladly pay higher taxes and then his response when he’s told that the rate in France is 75%?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9zwvJFCq_I
1:29 into this clip. Can’t find the english audio/subtitled version, here’s the script

Will Smith: I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here—I’m a black man who didn’t go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist. So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing. . . .

Interviewer : Do you know how much in France you would have to pay on income above one million euros (under just elected new french President Francois Hollande) ? Not 30%. but 75%.

Smith: 75?! Yeah, that’s different, that’s different. Yeah, 7teeee5. Well, you know, God bless America.
