McKayla Maroney, a two-time Olympic medalist who helped the "Fierce Five" U.S. women's gymnastics team to the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Games, has alleged that she was abused as early as age 13 by former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who already faces 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and could receive a sentence of life in prison.
Maroney, now 21, spoke out early Wednesday as part of the "Me too" movement on Twitter, saying, "silence has given the wrong people power for too long, and it's time to take our power back."
Maroney wrote that, starting when she was just 13, she was "molested" by Nassar, who was involved with USA Gymnastics for nearly three decades as a trainer and national medical coordinator, a role that led him to treat the country's elite gymnasts at four separate Olympic Games.
"Dr. Nassar told me that I was receiving 'medically necessary treatment that he had been performing on patients for over 30 years.' It started when I was 13 years old, at one of my first National Team training camps, in Texas, and it didn't end until I left the sport. It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was 'treated.'
"It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and it happened before I won my silver [in vault in London]."
Maroney also says that, when she was 15, Nassar gave her a sleeping pill during an all-day flight to Tokyo and that she woke up alone with him in his hotel room.
"For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old," Maroney wrote in her Twitter post. "... He'd given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a 'treatment.' I thought I was going to die that night."
I kind of agree with that, but what about if someone says you did something and you didnt? I mean to get back at you for something you did or didnt do? that also can happen...
Jonathan Brandis and Sawyer Sweetin committed suicide too.
In the late fifties-early 60s I worked at a recording studio in mid-town Manhattan.
One of the record producers who would buy studio time was Phil Spector. During a break one afternoon Phil liked to amble around the studio, proudly showing off his snub-nose Smith & Wesson 38.
There are many musicians who can tell stories about Phil taking out his weapon & waving it around during recording sessions. He was fascinated with guns.
This Nassar guy was pretty sick. He would bring the girls in to treat muscle issues and make them take their clothes off and would then stick his finger in everything and massage their breasts. In cases where girls complained they were told by other coaches it was necessary medical treatment, so it wasn’t just Nassar.
Great example of a guy with super talents in one domain who at the same time is a total nut job and shouldn't be allowed to walk around without a keeper.
Of course he can't walk around without a keeper now, but someone had to die in order to make it so.
And that someone was a female, so it kind of reinforces the point.
Those arent rumors!!!!! Bela and his wife are monsters!!!!! I am so glad they are finally OUT!!!! Ive spoken to Dominique Morceau about this. Her book is excellent. I dont know if he didnt anything s3xually but he and his wife physically abused and emotionally tortured their girls. Id gladly not win gold medals to have the athletes get the proper respect.
yep.
They went through in detail during the show about people blaming the victims - and I was curious if any Freepers would be LOW LIFE enough to do the same (because I was sure there would be). So I did a search - and there you are.
If you will watch "Athlete A" - you will see that DOZENS of these girls DID report - and were shamed by their coaches - threatened by the cops (at Michigan State) - made to sign NDAs (you know - like Trump does a lot) - etc.
Many of them tried to report.
But that doesn't matter. They were young teens. THe fact you would state this: "The people who do this stuff should be ostracized. and humiliated in the court of public opinionof not a court of law" - about YOUNG TEEN GIRLS - who are not adults -
Makes you just a scum bag - a low life.
ANd you know what - if it ever happens to your granddaughter - and she reports it to the authorities like MANY of these did - I hope she isn't treated or IGNORED and SILENCED like EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE WERE.
You are a POS human being.
I think you need to carefully reread what he wrote.
