The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Hubby is working a little every day on the green house. Slow going. I'm ready to move stuff into it ASAP. LOL
Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.
Pinging the list.
Well, it’s really winter now....so cold and windy...and I haven’t put the bike away for hibernation yet. Now I may have lost my window of opportunity and will probably have to have it picked up and TRAILORED to my brother’s garage (oh the shame!)
LOL. Way to procrastinate.
I was mixing some mulch into the garden today and found that the ground was frozen for about three inches. I really need to get early starts going indoors earlier in the spring due to the short growing season. I am thinking of doing indoor starts in mid April next year.
We are in the midst of an Arctic Blast. Can’t ride the 26 miles to Bro in THAT!
Maybe even mid February. LOL
Problem is last frost is around mid June so I can’t get anything except cold tolerant things into the ground until then.
Nice looking garlic. I planted some Siberian Garlic in one bed. Several years ago, I planted some garlic, and have been planting some of those cloves every since.
Wish I could remember the name, so I could order some more. I looked back through the files, but wasn’t able to find what it was I ordered, so I just make sure to save some to plant.
Maybe you could plant in bigger containers and let them grow a while longer in the pot? You probably need a heated green house. LOL
Those taters look delicious.
In winter and spring we have very high wind so a VERY strong greenhouse would be needed. Wind over 100 mph is not uncommon and We had two days where the max sustained wind was clocked at 118 mph each day. My neighbor had his roof blown off years ago.
A big porch with windows on 3 sides like my granny used to have might work, and would be stronger than a greenhouse.
Very Very Nice...
Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

I grow garlic that has large bulbs but it is not elephant garlic.
I THINK it’s a variety called Great Northern, which found in a Territorial Seeds catalog.
Anyways, I’ve saved enough and grown enough over the years, that now I plant about 100 cloves to get almost that many bulbs and then share them with friends and my kids.
I think it’s a hardneck variety and I hear the softneck stores better but is not as cold tolerant. I live in CNY and it needs to be able to survive the winter.
Anyone have any good suggestions?
Keep on doing what you are doing. Why mess with success?
