Appearing on The One Show today amid a Brexit special, the 83-year-old thespian did not hold back about high profile celebrities revealing their political leanings.
Dame Joan was on the BBC programme with her The Time of Their Lives co-star Pauline Collins to talk about the new film when the conversation turned to politics.
Host and Countryfile presenter Matt Baker said to them: “It’s quite difficult for people who are often in the public eye to be able to say their views openly without getting shot down. How do you both feel about it at the moment?”

She is a conservative woman. She is a member of UKIP in the UK, and she is pro-Brexit and pro-Trump.
Maybe that’s why she hasn’t been in a major film in years.

She is right. A lot of people have a problem enjoying an actor’s performance once they know too much about them (personal life, political views, etc.)

I can’t recall any of these old time Hollywood stars getting political other than promoting war bonds or supporting the war effort. Think about it: They supported this country so much a lot even joined the military to fight like James Stewart, Charleton Heston, Charles Bronson. Today all you get is constant bashing of the country, the POTUS, even bashing white people, it’s a disgrace and I really think Trump is the one who kicked off this whole Hollywood sex assault scandal just to clean out the swamp in that business. Like everyone else he is sick to death of these a-holes constantly mouthing off and I think Trump knew all about Weinstein and he called Ronan Farrow into his office and said “Ronan, I hear you’re trying to make a name for yourself in journalism. Well I have a deal I want to make.... “ and Ronan broke the story and the rest is history. Think about it: This has been going on for decades and as soon as Trump takes office all hell breaks loose with this stuff? He cleaned the swamp, all the Trump bashers, Kevin Spacey who called Trump a disease - GONE, Louis CK hardcore Trump basher - GONE, Harvey Weinstein - Democraps #1 fundraiser - GONE, The two d-bags from Massachussets - Matt Damon and Ben Assfleck- careers almost gone, and Meryl Streep - bashes Trump viciously on live TV, her career is effed as well if not outright finished. Trump is behind all of this, I know it. He saw the damage the a-holes were doing to the country and he saw to it. Now he’s going after corruption with that EO he put out. 2018 is going to be a hell of a year!

As usual some internet site uses hyperbole to get hits. She “blasted” no one. Only some pointed comments about actors acting unprofessionally. BS headline.

They all seem to have their “inner John Lennon” and they don’t seem to mind letting the world know.
I think this is what actors of today do not understand! People want actors to be a sort of “blank slate” upon which they can foist their own thoughts, dreams, etc... Right or wrong, that is EXACTLY what people are seeking in their “performers”!
Honestly, would Rock Hudson, Montgomery Clift or Randolph Scott gotten as many girls in the theaters, if people had KNOWN they were gay? NO! Because it would turn half the people off and then their box office draw would suffer - PERIOD! Women WANTED Rock Hudson to be straight, because they dreamed of being his lover. Most women would no longer have those dreams if they knew they never had a chance with him!
Same thing with young singers! They start off as sweet-hearts and turn into sex-tarts that are overly sexualized from their first album to the second. Instantly, those guys who dreamt that she was an innocent, young lady are heartbroken to find out she is a wide-receiver!! It changes how you think about a person!
If I see Tom Hanks starring in a role as a Conservative, I know that I am watching a FARCE! He will never be able to convince me that he is really that person, because I KNOW what kind of person he really is - in his heart! I used to be a huge Tom Hanks fan! I liked him all the way back to his “Bosom Buddies” days! But now, I wouldn’t want to see a single movie in which he stars - I just can’t do it!
Try my formula: Never learn an actor’s name. Go to the movies and enjoy the story. Ignore all news about the actors in real life. You’d be surprised how well this works.

Intelligence and class: a rarity in Hollywood these days.
I try to just watch old movies, and ignore most of the horrible remakes of today.
And of course, I never really considered actors, singers or sports stars to be “heroes”, so that helps.
I watch less than eight hours of TV per week now, and I do that sporadically. That helps A WHOLE D@MN LOT!!!
