Residents to get $500 a month, no questions asked, as starting point
The mayor of Stockton, California, is leading an experiment with “universal basic income,” which is set to start by giving low-income residents $500 a month, no questions asked.
Mayor Michael Tubbs calls his city “ground zero” for issues like wage stagnation, rising housing prices and loss of middle-class jobs that affect the nation.
The Central Valley city went bankrupt in 2012, and for decades it has been trying to diversify its agriculture-based economy.
“I feel that as mayor it’s my responsibility to do all I could to begin figuring out what’s the best way to make sure that folks in our community have a real economic floor,” Tubbs said.

“Universal basic income” for half the population requires “universal basic theft” from the other half.
So, the city went bankrupt a few years back, and has an essentially dead economy.
And they want to pay everyone $500/month.
Uh huh.
Their “gubmit” must have taken Common Core math in the jokes called California schools.

How does a bankrupt city get funds to give all “poor” people $500 a month? This is a city with no middle class (according to the mayor). Does this mayor print his own currency?

If this group were generating something...a service, a product, or a item of value...then I wouldn’t have much to say against it. But in this case, you paid for nothing. It wouldn’t take an idiot long to figure that you can sit at home and do nothing....getting paid to do nothing, and it’d only make sense that you make this your profession.

That's easy. EVERYONE is paid $500/month. No more, no less. Everyone is equal, at gunpoint. If you are a PHD graduate chemical engineer, there is absolutely no reason that you should be rewarded to a greater degree that some meth head with a cardboard sign on an on ramp...
