A couple of years ago, I ordered some stuff from Walmart that was shipped in two boxes via FedEx. I tracked both boxes on FedEx’s site, then they were transferred to our local post office for actual delivery. Last tracking info on the USPS site said “out for delivery”, but at some point between their being put on the USPS vehicle and when they were supposed to have been delivered, they mysteriously disappeared. Several calls to the post office later, they still never turned up. Walmart re-sent the order to me. I can only hope they demanded reimbursement from USPS.

I am fortunate enough to live a town so small the only Post Office is in the next small town—and the employees there are great.

Freepers—get out of those big cities and suburbs ASAP. You can thank me later!

USPS recently lost one of my orders for a week. Worse, I found out that their tracking info may be total BS. In my case, the package was supposed to move from small town, GA->Macon->Atlanta->Lexington->small town, KY. When the tracking info showed that it stalled in Lexington for 3 days I called the local post office and the lady told me that the last time the package was actually scanned was in Macon, that the rest of the tracking was computer-generated BS.

I have letters from when my MIL wrote to Senator Cranston (1983) to complain about a failure to deliver a package. Cranston wrote to the postmaster general, and a letter came back apologizing, explaining the result of their investigation and a promise to do better.

Times have changed.

Wow! 11 days...and I thought ours was bad. I'm still old school about paying my bills the out the mail instead of electronic so when the bills show up late or not at all it's a problem! Our postal carrier has a bad habit of putting mail in the wrong box. I had to get into the habit of checking it all while I was still at the box so I could put any that wasn't ours back in the slot. However magazines and packages require waiting until the next day and crossing your fingers that you catch the postman. I can no longer subscribe to my favorite cooking magazines since the other neighbors don't bother. Packages are a different story, the neighborhood exchanges phone numbers so they can come retrieve their packages when they get home. I won't drop off their packages at their door since package thieves have been a problem around here in the past. On the bright side you get to know your neighbors. 😉

Did you have to do that over the phone? I have been unable to find any place on Amazon’s website where I can complain or get any kind of response. I tried putting a note on the addressing portion of the order form not to ship USPS but that didn’t work.

Passport appointments are now done online, have been for about a year. You go to usps.com/scheduler and are led through the process of choosing a date and time for your appointment. Post offices are not allowed to schedule these over the phone anymore.
Make sure you bring your driver’s license, certified birth certificate, payment (no credit cards), and the properly completed form or you will get to reschedule. The passport clerks are having to see a person every 15 minutes now, instead of the old 30 minute time slots.

You are wasting your time and money if you send a letter registered. Registered is for high value items: i.e., stocks, bonds, jewelry and cash. Registered items are kept under lock and key. It is also extremely slow since the letter must be signed for by each person who touches it. Certified requires the recipient to sign for the item and would be the better choice, much cheaper and quicker.

Phone. And you have to use an event of never received my package. Using American Express helps.

I found out that the USPS marks a package as delivered when it is loaded on the truck. I was tracking one and saw that it said delivered, but the mail had not arrived. When it did a short time later I mentioned this to the driver and he said they marked it package as delivered when it was loaded on the truck.

Another driver told me that letters marked “return to sender” just get dumped.

And after the USPS lost about $80.00 of auto parts from Amazon (who replaced them for free, and via Prime shipping), and after USPS would not answer the phone or disconnected me, when i finally got a veteran on the phone who confirmed they lost it, i called the Ntl. complaint number she gave me, which promised to get back to me soon. Still waiting about 4 years.

Thanks.

I have one of those events. USPS signed for the package, put it in a parcel locker but never put the locker key in my box and when they checked the locker it was empty. They offered to do nothing about it.
