Authorities in Escondido, northeast of San Diego, recovered the body Thursday of a man who witnesses say had been paddle-boarding down the surging current in a concrete-lined waterway.
A 911 caller reported that the man had been swept away by rushing water in the Escondido Creek near Rose Street shortly before 4 p.m., KTLA sister station KSWB in San Diego reported.
Responding crews positioned themselves to try and rescue him, according to the station. However, it soon became a recovery effort when they discovered the body near the Tulip Street overpass

Not the sharpest cookie...
At what point did the paddler realize that maybe it wasnt such a good idea to attemp paddling in a rain-swollen river?
darwin award winner - idiots like this show up everytime there is a storm/flooding etc - put themselves in danger and then expect others to risk their lives to save them - probably just so they could post a picture of themselves on facebook.
Anyone talking of Darwin awards? Sad somebody died, but he brought it on himself if he wants to play in a flood.

Not anymore...
Surfing in a storm sewer. What could possibly go wrong?
One less Dem voter.
just adding to my darwin award comment - even though they brought in on themselves, and not knowing how old this person is, it is still sad - young people (if this was a young person), think they are invincible and they do dangerous things at times without thinking thru the possible outcomes - now that I am old enough to have a 21 year old son, the thought of him getting killed doing something stupid terrifies me - he is a good very good kid and has never been in trouble, but get a few of them together, throw in a few beers and you just never know what happens.
And ten fewer Dem votes.
Death by thrill seeking. Seems there’s always one in every major storm.
Death has never stopped anyone from voting Democrat. As a matter of fact, they seem to gain voting super-powers and manage to vote multiple times.
That is the lesson.
One often hears men expressing amazement they escaped their youthful adventures alive. I feel visceral fear when I recall my youth. Seconds or millimeters away from death and I never even gave it consideration.
It never ends though, does it? Every five years Im amazed ad how stupid I was five years earlier.
True! :-))
Darwin lives!

I was a paratrooper at 17 and a combat infantryman at 18.
When I got out of the Army at 20 I had all the excitement I needed and set my goal to have a very dull (and long life).

I suspect there are very few men (and maybe women but probably not quite as many), that looking back on their lives realize that it was only dumb luck that they made it past their youth - and I wasn’t a particularly wild child by any means - but have plenty of dumb moments in my youth that could have easily killed me and didn’t.
