I made a thread from this video a few years ago. It just drips with nostalgia:

“We failed to defend it properly against the radicalism that arose in the mid-to-late Sixties. And then we elected those “former” radicals to office, in large numbers.”
You summed it up perfectly. Hindsight really is 20/20.
First page I have ever bookmarked from Free Republic . Where is the Corvette now ?
25.9 cent gas!

Yes, BUT consider 5 grand was semi rich and 10 had you ‘’itting in tall cotton...
My first ship had cigarettes .90 a carton and/or .10 a pack. On my (almost) 75 per month didn’t always have enough to buy a carton of butts so tried to buy enough on payday to carry you...not sure if a limit on how many one could buy at a time..
for later
PP, thanks for the memories.
Though I was blind at the time, my parents are owed a debt

In 1956 my mother pulled me out of school in New York State 32 in my Class of 57 and moved me, her & my younger sister to California.
I know I was a handful - not wanting to leave in my Senior year - she was driving a 2 door 52 Chevy coupe pulling a 32 or so foot housetrailer.
I ‘hated’ her for it and the trip in general, so bad I quit school on my 17th bd and joined the Navy.
Anyhoo, back around the ‘turn of the century’ (remember when WE used to just read about that) I had to make a delivery to Las Vegas and took the Southern route. I was way ahead of schedule and I had an opportunity to ‘check out’ the old Rt 66.. and was amazed at the narrow highway and the curves and hills etc and just couldn’t picture my ‘tiny’ mother fighting that while pulling the ‘house’.
Never were all that ‘close’ but am really ‘ashamed’ of myself for never having the opportunity to REALLY apologize for the hell I must have put her through on that trip.
Flying blind here (no children), but it seems to me when parents include their children when traveling by car, they must really love them. To be in a vehicle for such a length of time - 8,4, or even 1 child....it might be a harrowing experience. Always fighting in the back seat, arguing for a position in the front riding ‘shotgun’. The stops that must be made: potty stops, I’m hungry stops, among many others. :-)
While typing just remembered a trip. In the days before the turn of the century, this one, cars were not normally equipped with air conditioning. We traveled with the windows down. That summer, scarf on my head a young girl begin such a trip. Every few hours and several miles, I had to ask dad to stop the car and turn around. The scarf had blown off my head and out the window. If we had to stop once, we had to stop a dozen times (in one direction!) Then there was the trip home.
Another memory is driving back from North Dakota to Texas in the winter months. Snow storm and awful driving conditions. He decided to pull off at a truck stop and wait out the storm. The area was at the top of a hill in Somewhere, Kansas. I’ll be darn, after being told he would never be able to make that hill, he went and did it. We hunkered in the building watching television and drinking hot chocolate until dawn and the storm passed; once again headed down the road for Texas.
Vacations are made for memories.
Great pix from a better bygone era.
It was our culture. We failed to defend it properly against the radicalism that arose in the mid-to-late Sixties. And then we elected those “former” radicals to office, in large numbers.
B I N G O ! ! !
As Ive discussed with some of you offline - Einsatzgruppen would have stopped the decay.
The POS Baby Boomers (and no, not all of them are/were) are only a part of the problem.
The as*holes that were in charge that allowed them to flourish are even more culpable: They allowed our Garden of Eden to get trampled.
Wow, a 32 foot trailer behind! Incredible guts and determination your Mom had. And it sounds like you inherited some of that :- )
Your apology reminds me that we all have said things are mistreated the people we love. And so it’s best to say those things now and clear our hearts.
All the best.
:^) All it took to screw it up was LBJ.

Don’t have anyone around me that parrots that leftist filth. They wouldn’t last long near me before I go full-Jesus flipping over tables. My tolerance level for that is sub-zero.
Theyve pretty much been entirely eliminated from my life too.
Better living without them.
Love it!
Dad was transferred from Newport News to San Diego 1960ish.
drove all the way. The most educational experience of my life. What a country!
