Microsoft Issues Windows 10 Upgrade Warning
Forbes ^ | March 9, 2019 | Gordon Kelly

We all know all about Windows 10’s most controversial feature, and Microsoft has now confirmed it has struck again…

Picked up by the ever-excellent AskWoody, the latest update for Windows 10 (patch KB4482887) has crippled gaming performance on the platform across both Nvidia and AMD GPUs. Microsoft has now confirmed the problem and issued an official warning about the update.

“After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2),” explained Microsoft, with the company saying it is working on a fix.

Needless to say, users are furious. Woody Leonhard highlights two threads on Reddit in particular (1,2).

Leonhard himself, also warns: “Is the problem confined to games? Highly unlikely, in my experience. It’s just that gamers notice bugs sooner than most of us.”

MSFT, unfortunately, does it again. Sloppy, sloppy quality control.

“Certain games” The unique attributes of those games affected should make troubleshooting rather quick. Businesses and non-gamers unaffected.

"Hey, I have an idea, let's outsource critical development to third world cesspools where the people can code but are lucky to have electricity and running water in their homes, they'll be vested in getting it right the first time and we can deprive Americans of jobs at the same time!"

And Microsoft Updates were born...

I learned my lesson last year when I updated and found out my scanner no longer worked, even after I re-installed the scanner program and drivers. BTW anyone ever use itunes? My God, talk about hands down THE worst program ever created in the history of computers. I got an ipad from a friend and tried to put movies on it, absolutely impossible to figure out. You would THINK it would be so easy as to just have a button that says “Transfer files to ipad” but NOPE! I wasted over an hour before I finally gave up. I then download an alternative program from the internet completely unrelated to Apple and it worked perfect.

“Hi, I’m having a problem with Microsoft word”

“Blxxyer derka bibbila poka raoks derp”

“Hmm? Come again?”

“Gibler poporala dipertru kxxzzt flot”

“BTW anyone ever use itunes?”

Yes, on Mac’s and PC’s.

It works very well for us.

I can stream any of our: 530 movies, 7115 songs, 101 TV shows and/or 4 music videos flawlessly via AppleTV to multiple TV screens/stereo receivers using an iPad, iPhone or a AppleTV remote. It’s easy-peasey.

I’m sure your movie wound up in the folder called ‘Movies’ on your iPad.

Have a great week.

After the last upgrade my lap top locked up. Had to take it to a shop. Ended up they had to reinstall everything.

Fortunately my main computer is a VISTA and they are no longer screwing with it.

I found a bug in Win CE...

it turned out to be a known bug with a known fix- it took me 3 months to get if from the developers in India.

When I talked to him, he was going by Joachin. Definitely the same lingo, though.

How could they keep doing this even if claimed it’s by accident? How can you accidentally make the transmission quit working because you tightened a fan belt? Why is there ANYTHING at all related to the transmission included in the procedure to tighten a fan belt?

This has got to be on purpose...

I use Dropbox and VLC to watch movies with subtitles on my Iphone. (Imovie is incredibly primitive.) I use Avidemux or FFMPEG to compress them and save space.

My brother had trouble getting windows 10 version 1809 install/upgrade and I told him to do fresh install that includes 1809 downloaded from Microsoft and it only took about 30 minutes . So with every new upgrade you have to do a fresh install ?

Apparently so... Every time they tighten the fan belt they somehow ruin the transmission and it needs to be rebuilt also.
