Norwegian newspaper VG said the Viking Sky cruise ship ran into propulsion problems as strong winds and heavy seas hit Norways coastal regions Saturday.
Police in the western county of Moere og Romsdal said Saturday the ship has managed to moor in Hustadsvika Bay, between the western Norwegian cities of Alesund and Trondheim.

A big factor is the number of elderly people involved, in the rescue.
Some of these people have difficulty in getting in and out of an automobile, and will need a lot of assistance getting into a helicopter.
I am sure some won't do it. - Tom
Alesund and Trondheim are not close to each other.
I would stay away from the buffet if I were on board.
Looks like a floating apartment building. And just as seaworthy. Prayers up for the people there.
appears to be underway or in tow.

Thank you.
My guess is the engines are running, but they are afraid of not having anyone assisting and are using another vessel to tow just in case.
Yikes!
I refuse to fly or go on a cruise ship.
A little boat on the lake or in the delta is okay with me though.
I’ve heard those big cruise ships are overcrowded, and all the attractions have lines like at Disney. The only one I’d consider is maybe a river cruise. Looks more interesting than bungey games and viscous hot tubs.
I wouldn’t ever go on a sea cruise on Norways waters......known to be rough and dangerous.
I’d hesitate going on a cruise even if paid for.....but on Norways waters...never!
Live map shows several tows in proximity and one alongside.
Not making much headway.
Very good. Especially since my calculations were so optomistic, being based upon both a supply of helicopters apparently not available, and human frailty factors for which I did not account.
It is also very good that this was posted, so that the prayers of many have been multiplied.

Viscous hot tubs?
(shudder)
Recent track of ship. Looks like they were really in serious trouble and headed for a lee shore.
Good. That is reassuring. Thanks
Thank you for update.
