Capacity 930, but they are evacuating 1300 passengers?

4 Diesel engines - bad fuel to knock all of them out? Or more likely a computer failure.

Wonder what happened to the propulsion.

Modern cruise ships have gotten away from straight shafts and propellers and gone over to Azipods which look like the lower units of outboards; because they are more efficient on fuel. Azipods can be rotated and maneuvered to aid in the ships changes in direction.

About 5 years years ago I was onboard a cruise ship that was getting ready to leave St. Thomas, and we had an Azipod malfunction ,and had to stay at the dock for several more hours until it was rectified. -Tom

They could be laying on the beach in Hilton Head.

Update 12 minutes ago:

Norwegian public broadcaster NRK said the Viking Sky’s evacuation was likely to be a slow and dangerous process, as passengers needed to be hoisted from the cruise ship to the five available helicopters one by one. By 6 p.m. local time, some 100 people had been rescued.

Authorities told NRK that a strong storm with high waves was preventing rescue workers from using life boats or other vessels in taking passengers ashore.
