Has anyone ever used Zillow or Trulia?

Has anyone ever used or tried to use Zillow or Trulia?

I went on the Zillow website and listed an apartment for rent. I got a few responses but now the listing has disappeared. Their website said the listing was pending and then said I had no apartment listed for rent.

I tried to re-list the apartment but when friends try to respond to the ad it won't connect. There is no phone number for customer service or technical support. Emails are ignored or don't go through.

Any ideas?

I’m in the market for a larger house and use Zillow all the time. I know for a fact it is a little quirky with properties up for rent or sale but not showing so on the App.

Zillow is a good tool to look for trends and interesting locations.
It is a bad tool to use for actively shopping as many have offers by the time Zillow posts them.

I do it all the time. I like Redfin better but they don’t cover everywhere.

Apparently Zillow is very good if you are looking for a place to rent. It’s very user friendly.

I’ve found listing a place to rent to be a nightmare. They showed on the map that the unit was located 6 or 7 blocks away. I still got some responses. But now, if you can find it on their website, you can’t even communicate with the owner.

There is a lot of bugs in zillow system. Some vanish. One that i'm aware of if you put the house address in you can find it. If you search for that type of house you can't find it.

I never used it to sell or rent anything yet.

I used Realtor.com and Zillow.. We bought in another state so we looked at at least one hundred homes on line before we traveled to view them in person. We wound up buying the second house we viewed online.

What a great tool to save days and hours without going from house to house.

Zillow is riddled with bizarre errors when estimating the value of various homes. My own house is listed as a duplex when it is a single family home. Each unit in the duplex is the same exact house with the same exact rooms! I’ve tried to get them to correct it, but it remains listed that way. When you go to a map of my neighborhood and find my house from an aerial view and click on it, the address is wrong, even though it is my house exactly. The values on each of these houses varies by $45,000 even in each case, it is my house. If they make that many errors on my own house, it makes me wonder about everything else they publish.

Our best website in the Knoxville area is KAARMLS. It’s a no-fills site, and we used it when buying two homes, and selling one. Realtor.com and Zillow were interesting to surf, but when it came down to business, there was just too much razzle-dazzle with them.

My boss sold his house in three days using it. And if he could do it... I’ve only used it to look and was a bit perplexed that my house (I’m first owner of it and bought new in 2006) was listed as having 16 bathrooms. It was that way for three or four years but has since been reduced to 4.5.

“”we wound up buying the second house we viewed online””

Interesting. I bought the first house I looked at online and then visited the same day. After looking at it my brother said you need to look at at least 30 houses before you decide. I wasted 1 month doing that, went back to the 1st one, it was still available so I bought it.

Never looked back.

A younger family member was buying a new home and was not getting any real help from a local realtor, who didn’t believe in the internet.

I suggested that they put their home on Zillow. The response was excellent.

They had 5 families very interested, and one couple bought their home.

I bought my house using Zillow. Obviously, I had a local realtor as well. Hope the glitches get straightened out for you.

I’m a real estate investor who posts once a year there, so I think that the trouble might be that it takes 48 hours for Zillow to propogate your posting as the owner of the property that you claim. Secondly, don’t forget to use Craigslist as a posting resource!

There is one tool which Zillow has that the other online real-estate sites lack, and that is the “Lot Lines” function in the maps screen. That shows the other available homes in the same neighborhood and area. Wish the others would have it, since it’s pretty useful to check out the other homes in the area.

You were lucky it was still available!

When we were looking at this very hot market, the homes were sold in many cases within a few days of listing. We were fortunate that our seller had absolutely no color sense and the sheer horror of getting hit in the eyes with acid green turned many off immediately.

We repainted in neutrals...immediately.
