The Defense Department might be prohibited from naming assets after Confederate symbols should an amendment added to the House defense budget make its way into the final version of the law.

The amendment, added Thursday to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020, was submitted by Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, D-N.Y. The annual legislation cleared the House on Friday by a vote of 220-197.

The Army and Navy are now the only branches of the military with any assets named after symbols of the Confederacy, according to a September 2017 Congressional Research Service report on Confederate symbols on federal land.

Current names can stay but no more new names in the future.

Part of the bill is no armed forced asset can be names after a battle that involved a Confederate victory. That is funny because the US Navy has had plenty of ships named after battles from the Revolution where the British won, for example, the USS Brandywine.

Almost all the bases in the south were named for Confederate generals.

Confederate symbols? Like KKK members who served in the US Senate?

Just name them after the men when they were in the army and navy in 1859 BEFORE the split.

I’m sure the Senate has nothing more important to resolve other than their latest paycheck from the Chamber of Commerce.

Most Americans know Bragg, Ft Benning, and Ft Hood. But I would bet dollars to donuts that very few folks who have not spent time at one of those places could even tell you who they were named after.

These men, while fighting for the “wrong” side, were generals—and pretty good ones at that. While I do not know specifically, most of those officers would not have been in any position to own slaves.

Falling right into the trap Trump set.

San Fran Nan figured out the damage the Squad was doing the party among voters and had started reining them in. Trump sends out a few tweets and she joined at the hip with them again.

Midwestern and blue collar voters take note: your Democrat Congress is not run by Nan anymore, it is run by the Squad. Vote Democrat at your peril.

Thing to always keep in mimd about leftists, the issue is rarely the issue.

Accede to one demand, why, they got ten more ready to go. They’ll never be satisfied. So if they got their panties in a wad about a military base named after a Confederate, rest assured they’ll be “REEE!!!!” about something else soon enough. Tell ‘em to get bent, and focus their attention on the future, and not the past.

To be consistent, we need a bill to stop naming assets after Democrats, since they are the party of slavery, KKK, Jim Crow, etc.

Also, the Democrat donkey logo needs to be outlawed as well.

USS Semmes (DDG-18), was the second Navy ship named for Commander (USN), Rear Admiral (CSN), Brigadier General (CSA) Raphael Semmes (1809–1877). Semmes was a Charles F. Adams-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy. Entering service in 1962, Semmes spent most of her career in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters. Decommissioned in 1991, Semmes was transferred to the Hellenic Navy and renamed Kimon. The destroyer was decommissioned for the final time in 2004 and sold for scrap in 2006.
