I’m surprised the FAA hasn’t scheduled a series of test flights to verify the software fix. I know that EASA in Europe and CAAC in China are insisting on that.

I don’t think the 737 Max is going to recover.

The Lockheed Electra made a comeback after an even worse start. The 727 had a checkered reputation in its early days. Even the original 737 had a severe safety defect. And let's not forget the self-igniting 787. Even the Comet had some success after a major re-design. Or two. Or three.

A combination of marketing and cut rate fares, and the planes will quickly fill up.

Now there’s a bureaucrat with balls... Expect a House committee to open an investigation...

They have to get it fixed before they test fly it. There's a reason the date keeps getting pushed back.

Been there done that...
“Delta ordered her to go through a psychiatric exam.”

During Dickson’s confirmation hearing in the United States Senate, Democrats on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee raised objections to his involvement in a whistleblower protection case while at Delta. The case involved a pilot who had raised concerns about safety to both Dickson and other executives at Delta. She claimed that as retaliation, Delta ordered her to go through a psychiatric exam.

In response, Senator Maria Cantwell stated that “It is clear to me he is not the right person for the safety culture that we need today at the FAA,” Cantwell said on July 23. She said voting against Dickson will “help us create an environment where whistleblowers will be listened to.”[5]

It appears to me that you are trying to cover your facts r missing post with a MSM style facts r missing comment.

The director never said he was going to be the certification pilot. He said: “I’m the final sign-off authority in the U.S., and I’m not going to sign off on the aircraft until I would fly it myself,”

“I’m the final sign-off authority in the U.S., and I’m not going to sign off on the aircraft until I would fly it myself."

This statement seems a little cagey. Sounds like he's saying he wants it to be something he "would" fly, not "will" fly.

“I will fly the Max."

This qualifier doesn't help. He's not saying he'll be hands on, but he will be on a Max.

Sorry, but the skepticism bone in my head is twitching...

Does the FAA superpilot realize that if he gets into trouble during the flight that FADEC will only give him computed engine power and not 100% of what the engines are capable of? That premise is what is killing people.

So it wasn’t a result of configuring the MCAS software to rely on a single AOA sensor?

If he has not regularly flown the 737 recently it is a meaningless gesture.

He would not be the actual pilot in command but could fly the plane in the right seat to satisfy his concerns about how the MCAS fixes affect the yoke pressures during takeoff.

A test pilot is a special designation that requires additional training in in-flight emergency procedures and unusual attitudes that regular pilots only train on in a simulator.

“The 737 MAX flew 8,600 times without accident. Him in the cockpit is meaningless.

Politically it’s not meaningless.

I’d like to see him fly a 737 MAX without the recent modifications and give an honest report on it. Of course if he found it to be ok all hell would break loose so he couldn’t under any circumstances report that.

“It’s about damned time a Fed of any stripe put his ass where his mouth is.”

Actually beyond time. It’s as close to a “pledge of life, fortune and sacred honor” as I’ve seen by anyone other than a GI.

It’s good logic as well.

An old friend of mine owns several McDonald’s restaurants. He makes it a point to eat there every day to prove that it does not make you fat.

I have probably flown on more Boeing’s than you in the past few months. Enjoy your flight into sycophancy for your global elitist overlords.
