Tragic New Details Surrounding ‘Seinfeld’ Actor Charles Levin’s Death

Actor Charles Levin, 70, died over the summer, and now a new report is shedding light on what happened.

Levin was reported missing by his son Jesse on June 28 after he called a friend to say he was lost somewhere near Cave Junction, Oregon.

Now, DailyMail.com has obtained official reports from the case that reveal that on July 13 Levin’s car was found on a remote road. His body was discovered at the bottom of a 30-foot ravine.

Documents from Grants Pass Department of Public Safety indicate that Levin had been dead for days. His body was naked and wedged between two trees.

The report indicated signs of “animal scavenging likely in the form of turkey vultures.”

Authorities used dental records to identify his body, and his death has been ruled accidental.

Police reportedly had to scale a slope and retrieve his body using a rope-and-pulley system.

The unnamed local who discovered his car and his body told DailyMail.com, “It looked like he was trying to take a back route to Grants Pass [where he lived]. But the road he went down was remote and doesn't have any signs. It's easy to get lost, and GPS doesn't work.”

The source went on to say, “His car was pretty banged up and was off a logging trail. I went up on foot, hiking. I wouldn't have driven up there by myself, no way. I think he might have made a few bad decisions.”

The public safety report stated his Fiat was damaged and trapped in a pile of dirt. His pet pug Boo Boo Bear was found dead inside the vehicle.

Levin was a familiar face on TV, including on "Alice," "The Golden Girls," "NYPD Blue," and "Hill Street Blues." He famously played a mohel in the 1993 “Seinfeld” episode “The Bris.”

What a sad, desolate way to go. It can happen to anyone if you go too deeply into unfamiliar terrain.
There are several dark, winding and unmarked roads not far from me. Most surround public parks. I would not drive on such roads at night.

I don’t even like driving to Stinson Beach in the middle of the day. That’s close to Sausalito, Ca.
Great vistas to enjoy, if somebody else is driving.
Some Cal, natives told me they took their driver’s exams around places like Stinson. So there’s that.

What is a "mohel" and how did that make him famous in just one episode of Seinfeld almost 3 decades ago?

Can anybody help explain this? Thanks.

Wedged between trees sounds like a big cat. What a shame to go that way.

A Mohel is the person (rabbi) who performs the circumcision.

I don’t think it matters what one time role an actor would have on Seinfeld, it would make you famous in pop culture for a while.

Pronounced MOIL. He performs circumcisions as a Jewish ceremony.

A mohel does the circumcision of Jewish baby boys. I think he cut his finger in the episode but I can’t remember it to clearly.

A mohel is the person who conducts a bris (Jewish ceremonial circumcision). Like many Seinfeld bit characters it was very memorable (and never-ending in reruns).

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blond
Who comes on at five
She can tell you ‘bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It’s interesting when people die
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

Attended a funeral a few years ago of a guy who died in a similar way. Was recovering from a badly broken leg. His doctor had told him to take it easy. He ignored those instructions and went out clearing brush on his property.

Apparently a clot went to his heart and killed him. Unfortunately his wife was out of town. By the time she got alarmed about not being able to get him on the phone and traveled back he had been dead several days. Woodland creatures had been snacking. It was a closed casket obviously.

“(and never-ending in reruns).”

Seinfeld is worth close to a billion dollars because of that.

A college friend of mine had an uncle that went fishing and missing. Found his boat on day one, but took 3 days to find his body due to a rapid current. The local wildlife had feasted like kings apparently. Nature doing what nature does.

If I remember, he had a heart attack and must have fell out of the boat.

Hmmmm, sounds like he may have been on an especially rough canoe trip. I’d be on the lookout for these guys:
