Considering both areas of the world, the west coast and northern Italy, have high numbers of Chinese residents and travelers, I don’t see it originating with us.
I know that epidemiologists in Asia are claiming that we are the only source of all types of COVID-19, but I have yet to see that confirmed by the EU or US or even the WHO. The virus also mutates twice a month on average, so it actually makes sense that those last to be infected have all types considering we have all types of travelers coming to and leaving from our country.
Then again, I’m not an epidemiologist.

Laz, you are correct. UNC Chapel Hill was where the virus was isolated from Chinese material, It was sent to Fort Deitrick for further research. Scientists became worried and the government canceled the grants on the research due to the perceived danger. It found it’s way into a Canadian research facility. All this time Chinese insiders were smuggling the research and material back into China. The Canadians caught someone smuggling the virus to China. So yeah, it sorta did come from here, just not the way the CCP says.
