In Here is New York, a 1949 love letter to his adopted home, author E.B. White declared it a miracle that the city managed to exist at all.
The whole thing is implausible, he wrote. Every time the residents brush their teeth, millions of gallons of water must be drawn from the Catskills and the hills of Westchester.

As people pour out of NYC the state could go red! Particularly if Albany is flushed.
Godwin is an excellent writer. NY Post is the best newspaper in America now. I’m thinking of having it delivered. It was always a fun read while riding on the subway. Daily News used to have great columnists who made it worth buying. In fact, I used to subscribe to the NY Times then switched to WSJ back in the 90’s. Now, I have no paper of choice except the NY Post and occasionally the UK Daily Mail which steals from everywhere and writes under its own name. At least it provides some factual reporting.
Some might see him as doing exemplary work for his hoped-for communist revolution.
I’ll put you down as a ‘no’ for Agenda 2030.
I have a bunch of car hobby friends on FB who live in the burroughs- Queens Flushing etc.
Many have already moved out, many are in the process. The ones staying are armed to the teeth and setting up neighborhood watches.
The ones staying are like the Kowalksis of Grand Torino. Perfect houses and yards. The new immigrants houses are turning into dumps. They post the pics. I have seen them.
One guy just sold his family home in Flushing of 80 years when the neighbors live like pigs and criminal element moved in.
“We have a nice house and 21 acres of wooded land where we cant see the neighbors for far less than that.”
WE live on a small farm on a dead end road. Closet neighbor is 1/4 mile away.
No diversity..We Love it.
Or to shul...he hates Orthodox Jews equally if not more than Christians. Remember, his birth name is Warren Wilhelm.
After spending a decade in the E. Coast, VA/DC area, I gave up trying to figure why NYers voted and lived they way they did. So you are probably correct!
“I bet if he runs for another term he will win by a landslide thanks to no-information voters.”
I can't say if it is because of his commie indoctrination or something in his DNA. But "he's not right in the head," as they say.
If they are lucky, maybe they can find a way to elect him for another term or two....really get into S&M.
“The financial district was all that was left keeping NYC alive and in the game.”
One of our neighbors had a serious operation and her grand daughter and 6 month old baby came out to help her recover.
The grand daughter, who was basically raised by her grand mother got caught out here with the CV issues and has stayed on. Her company a financial one arranged to have an office installed in a spare bedroom out here. So she has been working
Up to the riots/marches, she was adamant about going back to NYC to live.
My wife, a mother, grand mother and an RN whose doctor treated this young woman, asked her why she would expose a young baby to the terror and hate when she could stay here?
Her answer was I love NY City. My wife and I told her, her NY City no longer existed after the riots/protests.
She was angry with us at first, and now she is seeing what we tried to warn her about.
I wouldn’t live in a major city if you GAVE me the residence, paid all the taxes, gave me a V-8 Mustang and a Chevy Suburban, and stocked the firg with steak, lobster, shrimp, and Mountain Dew. Especially if I had to obey NYC gun laws to the letter.
It would be hard to do even if I had two bodyguards to accompany me everywhere in the city with a third to remain at the residence any time I was away, and a carry permit as well, and $250,000 a year to spend after taxes.
Not even if a high class lady “escort” were part of the deal.
Does anyone except the right-wingers at NY Post, Hannity, FR, Breitbart, the WH, RNC, GOP, etc. believe this?
Do the trust fund children on 5th avenue or the society women on the UES agree? If they don't, articles like this are a waste of time.
Wilhelm.
We have a neighbor with that first name. One son had a discussion with him and warned him about how his older brother didn’t like people trying to take advantage of his parents, us.
The neighbor and his wife are not pushy any more.
And how little he does. New York has had its share of corrupt and incompetent mayors, but never has it had one who is both of those and also a lazy bum.
” My immediate gut level response was, something’s not right with that guy. You can see it in his face.”
I see that “look” in many liberals. I thought it was just me who thought like this.
My daughter lives in Manhattan and loves it. Being young and single who wouldn’t want to live there? But with the COVID shutdown, all the press of living there are no longer available. Add to that soaring crime and NYC doesn’t look so inviting.
Do not underestimate the effect his wife has on all this
I get the NyPost delivered daily. One of the few with the right viewpoint. WSJ too expensive and mostly financial.
