TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - An officer with the Toledo Police Department has been shot and killed in the line of duty, according to Toledo Police Chief George Kral. The officer has been identified as 26-year-old Officer Anthony Dia.
The incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday when police responded to a disturbance at the Home Depot on West Alexis near Lewis.
According to police, Officer Dia was dispatched to check the well being of a man who reportedly seemed intoxicated. Witnesses told police the suspect turned and fired at Officer Dia, who was reportedly able to return fire before he was struck. Officer Dia was transported to Toledo Hospital where he later died.

Not to excuse why officers rarely shoot unarmed people, but they truly are our front line soldiers in a Culture War that’s getting hotter by the minute.

Chief Kral said that the 57-year-old suspect was found dead some time after the shooting having suffered a gunshot wound. 13abc has learned that that wound was self-inflicted.

I wonder if a liberal celeb will say “Blue Lives Matter.” An actress who is famous because of a role 14 years ago and somehow is relevant. A star athlete who makes millions because he bounces a ball or catches another. I doubt it.

Since I could not find the statistic anywhere I crunched the numbers myself. If you pick a cop at random, he , or she , is 29 times more likely to be murdered by a black criminal, than a random black unarmed man is of being murdered by a cop. I might add being unarmed does not mean they didn’t need shooting. Michael Brown, the gentle, store owner beating giant, comes to mind.
The officer was a Muslim. Obviously not terribly devout, he had three dogs. Prayers for his family.

In that line of work a husband, wife or child can kiss the officer on their way out the door to work and they next view them in a casket. Most lines of work routinely don't have that daily danger.
