500 rounds is less than an average day at the range.

You don’t really know your gun and its reliability until a minimum of 1,000 rounds have been fired through it.

I’ve been averaging 2 trips a week to the range.

I saw this-thought it was very good advice. Info Wars has been really good lately.

Nice post, and a BTT. Like most buying panics, this one is making those of us who thought we were pretty comfortable see our stashes as barely adequate now. That’s part of the reason that demand is up, and it’s a tough impression to shake; and it also makes people (guilty as charged, Yer Honor) who don’t inventory their ammo lockers very often pay new attention under new conditions. Bulk 5.56 is up 50% from the last time I purchased a case. Ouch.

Prepper ping - Is Ammo the new currency in times of crisis ?
The value of Stocking up !

Matt Bracken: Ammunition Is Money as Communists Get Ready To Shoot Back (Video)

Matt Bracken guest hosts The Alex Jones Show to break down the true value of stocking up on ammunition.
With the threat of eliminating the police in many metropoitan areas, or at least partial defunding of police agencies, many cities have declared a lack of support. This concept runs contrary to many of those same communities that require active police servicing;
especially in the inner cities, and black communities where the less fortunate, and those who cannot defend themselves reside require active police involvement.
Are we 'willing' to defend ourselves our families, and with 'what' limited resources we may have ?
Are we able to defend ourselves ?
The article, video, and comments provide insight into self-protection, especially in instances where police cannot respond in a timely manner.

There is a reason why the “Castle Doctrine” has become the predominate self-protection legal concept in many States.
Remember the refrain :” When crisis occurs, .. the police are only 15 minutes away “.
Then what do you do when police resources are already spread too thin, or won't, or can't respond ?

Ammo is running in short supply
and what is available is disproportionately expensive.
Learn to reload as even those supplies are running short.

Some of us stocked up on bullets, primers and powder when they were still relatively cheap. Now we have the equivelant of our own money printing presses. Powder if properly stored will last for decades. Bullets no time limit, primers, same as powder if properly stored. Some of us have been picking up empty discarded 5.56, 9mm and any other reloadable cases at the rifle ranges and have tens of thousands of them.

Keep every desiccant pack that falls out of every package and drop them in your ammo cans.

I don’t know anything about you, except that you are probably 50+ and probably male based on you signing up on FR in 1998.

That said, if possible you might want to pick up a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 pump shotgun in 12 gauge for home defense. Walmart still has plenty of 2 3/4” 12 gauge in #7 1/2 shot (birdshot). If you can find #6, #4 or even buckshot get some. Any of the above will ruin someone’s day.

Here’s something that could be useful for riot control (according to Col. Jeff Cooper’s recommendation - he suggested a suppressed .22).

It’s not a firearm, but is quiet and could take people out of the game with them not knowing where the shot came from. Anonymity is very useful in that scenario.

Notice the stock levels - I’m not the only one thinking this way.

Lurkinanloomin :" Keep every desiccant pack that falls out of every package and drop them in your ammo cans."

I understand that many piano's (and musical organ) stores have larger desiccant packages for international transport (to protect wood from warping).
Same thing with shoe stores - but with smaller packets of desiccant.
Many desiccant package contents change color if exposed to moisture
but can be microwaved, and thus re-charged for further duty.

My recommendation, in addition to stockpiling ammo, is to take up the hobby of reloading. First, it reduces the cost of ammo and allows for a post collapse skill that is and will be, valuable.
