After five years and $8 million dollars, sustainable seafood alternative company New Wave Foods is ready to launch its first product: plant-based shrimp.
The shrimp alternative, which the company says has the same flavor and “snap” texture of real shrimp, is made of seaweed and plant proteins derived from mung beans. New Wave Foods is also announcing that it closed an $18 million Series A funding round, led by New Enterprise Associates and Evolution VC Partners (Tyson Ventures, the VC arm of Tyson Foods, had invested in the company in 2019), which will help it scale up its shrimp alternative and bring other plant-based seafoods to market.

Why do vegans need everything to taste and look like meat?
Why is my margarine that I’ve been buying for decades suddenly labeling itself at plant butter? Sorry, but margarine has never been made from milk and everyone should know that. It was never and is not butter but that’s what they’re telling us now.
Well, I suppose some people are that dumb. Some dingbats believe eggs are aborted chickens. Others don’t understand pork ‘n beans contain pork. Like, but uh, it’s beans so it’s vegan safe, right?!? Yes, unfortunately, I know that person and it’s the same person who orders pepperoni pizza but tosses the pepperoni in the trash as if there isn’t pepperoni juice on the pizza. Sure, tossing the poor pig (no animal is named pepperoni) in the garbage is somehow superior to eating it. What’s she going to do, glue the pepperonis back together and wave her magic wand turning it into a real live pig at the end of the year?
Me, too.
A can of tuna is half water so krab meat is way cheaper by half and tastier than tuna.
Yer funny.
Vegan are liars. Everything they do is to make their veggies taste like meat.
It’s true
