As we age, our abilities inevitably decline. The activities of daily livings (ADLs) capture those skills we need to remain living an independent life – primarily getting dressed, bathing and toileting, and eating meals. Bathing and hygiene are particularly crucial – simply put, if you cannot bathe and use the toilet where you are, you need to be somewhere else. Simple home modifications, a grab bar in the shower or tub, an elevated toilet seat, a shower seat all are inexpensive additions that
“reduce injury, enable independence, preserve dignity, and improve quality of life in older people with irreversible disability for complex multifactorial reasons.”
Those simple modifications can reduce falls by 19% and increase independence by 30%, translating into considerable savings to the healthcare system over the cost. It should come as no surprise that this is another area where we may have failed “our seniors.” Here are findings from a new study reported this week in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Oh hell, I do all that in my recliner. I'm good.
The problem? Getting old.
Too funny! Reminds me of a joke..
Three old men were sitting on the porch of the facility where they lived.
The first man said, “I just wish I could take a healthy pee again.”
The second man said, “I just wish I could take a healthy poop again.”
The third man said,”I don’t have those problems. Every morning I take a healthy pee at 7 and a healthy poop at 9. I just wish I would wake up before noon.”
Tell me about it! I’m falling apart faster than a cheap suit. You know you’re getting old when you have to prioritize your doctor’s appointments. :-)

Is living like that worth it? As I age I am thinking of doing drugs and doing very bad life habit items. Do I want to live past 85?
Still haunts me till this day, that I had to trick my Mother into a memory care unit. It was a nice continuing care facility. Hubby and I are knocking on 70 and I can tell we are slowing down somewhat.
I have told my wife and others from my experiences with older adults that for most the day comes when your home does not fit you anymore. Bathroom is small, steps up or down, and even opening the blankety blank packaging that most of the food products are in is a problem.
Do I want to live past 85?
My mom lived on her own in an apartment that required climbing stairs until one day at 99 1/2 she found she couldn’t get out of bed. The first day she refused an ambulance, the second day she reluctantly agreed. She never came back home and died a couple of months later in an assisted-living facility She most definitely wasn’t ready to check out, but her body was—and did.
No one knows for sure how old age will have its way with you. How long your family tends to live might give a hint, but of course there are no guarantees.
When my aunt was past 95 in the nursing home, I started taking her liquor and chocolates. What the heck! She lived to 99.
I’m in real estate. When I buy a place the first thing I look for is how to modify it for senior living convenience. This means a lot more to older buyers than “location, location, location.”
Now if you hadn’t nabbed her liquor and chocolates, she would have lived to 109! ;)
Given the population demographics of baby boomers retiring and the ever increasing “progressiveness” of leftism, now would be a good time to buy stock in companies that manufacture euthanasia drugs.
You know when you’re really old? When you kids talk about you in front of you....”What are we gonna do about Pop?”

I am never going on any medication.
I refuse to reduce my life to being a revenue stream for the big-bureaucrat / big-pharmaceutical criminal complex.
I bet I live longer that way, too.
Just watch the drug commercial on TV and all the legalese they use to absolve themselves of liability.
I didn’t take them FROM her; I took them TO her.
Because she no longer needed to worry about dying young.
Is there a better place to get old?
