PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. -- A mother is warning motorists against distracted driving after her son's father was killed along a construction site on I-95.
Dustin Warden, 25, was hit and killed by a car in a worksite on Interstate 95 in Prince George County on February 3, 2018.
The VDOT contractor was working to provide for his young family when he was killed by a distracted driver.
Virginia State Police said a driver looked down, took her eyes off the road and fatally struck Warden.
Each year, Warden's girlfriend Jaimie Ray wears orange in honor of him.
"Pay attention and make sure you move over when you see construction because these people are out here risking their lives every day. They've got families that they want to go home to," Ray warned.

Some air head dim wit was checking to see how many "likes" she had on Facebook. Priorities, priorities, you know.
It really pisses me off when drivers race through construction zones. That is a dangerous job, and those guys deserve our full attention.

When I first saw the title, I thought it said “...Woke Zone Awareness Week...”
I know. It is a nonsensical interpretation....It took me a second to read it correctly.
Two thoughts: I have come to detest any government sponsored Day/Week/Month endeavor apart from something like Memorial Day. I can’t stand that stuff, and now it makes my hackles rise when I see it, just as my hackles now rise when I see flags at half mast all the time.
Secondly, I cannot imagine a more useless, worthless, nonsensical waste of life than one lost because someone is texting or using a phone.
Let’s face it-the only REAL distracted driving is done as a result of smart phones. Sure, people may be consulting a map, changing a radio station, trying to reset their trip meter, or dealing with unruly kids in the back seat, but the fact is, most of the time it is people sending/reading texts or engaging in other cell phone activities.
What a terrible thing, to do something like that to someone and their family, and have to live the rest of your days with it.

Fiddling with the radio or egg sandwich could result in the same outcome.
The irony of making phone handling illegal is that many will still use the phone secretly and take their eyes off the road. But when the driver insists on using the phone, better it’s held above dashboard level.
Yes, but I'd bet the relative frequency of distraction is much less with food or radio, but the outcome could be the same.

Maps and egg sandwiches are inconsistent over time...smart phones are an all the time thing.

It cost her a grand and a couple months in jail. Homicide as a misdemeanor.

If the first violation in a work zone resulted in a mandatory license suspension we’d have safer work zones.
