NSA reportedly admits to ‘unmasking’ Tucker Carlson in intercepted communications

Looks like a classic use of what spies call the "limited hangout" - admitting "some of the truth while still managing to withhold the key and damaging facts in the case."

Ever since Tucker Carlson first claimed on his June 28, 2021 broadcast that the NSA has been spying on him, he has been subjected to ridicule from his lower-rated cable news competitors on other agitprop media outlets, and a misleading nondenial denial from the NSA, stating that he was not a “target” – which Carlson never claimed and which leaves plenty of room for spying on him as a non-target.

Now, through an anonymous leak to a publication called The Record, we are being told:

…the nation’s top electronic spy agency found that Carlson was mentioned in communications between third parties and his name was subsequently revealed through “unmasking,” a process in which relevant government officials can request the identities of American citizens in intelligence reports to be divulged provided there is an official reason, such as helping them make sense of the intelligence documents they are reviewing.

Note that we are not being told why the unusual and grave step of unmasking an American citizen was undertaken. No claim is being made that the reason for unmasking Tucker was “helping them make sense of the intelligence documents they are reviewing.”

"spy jargon for a favorite and frequently used gimmick of the clandestine professionals. When their veil of secrecy is shredded and they can no longer rely on a phony cover story to misinform the public, they resort to admitting—sometimes even volunteering—some of the truth while still managing to withhold the key and damaging facts in the case. The public, however, is usually so intrigued by the new information that it never thinks to pursue the matter further."

Our country cannot continue with these criminals in charge. We must throw sand into their spying at EVERY conversation. Since they listen to everyone, they must be fed a load of nonsense in those intercepts. If Americans have no secrecy, everything must become gibberish so the tyrants have no idea what is going on.

The spying violates his right to privacy. The man who authorized it needs to go to jail.

This, then, would have been confidential information. However, if they were planning on leaking that to the press, that’s illegal.

…the unusual and grave step of unmasking an American citizen

Unusual? Grave?

”The Office of the Director of National Intelligence reported that in 2019, the Trump administration had 10,012 unmasking requests fulfilled; 16,721 requests fulfilled in 2018, and 9,529 requests fulfilled in 2017.”

…the nation’s top electronic spy agency found that Carlson was mentioned in communications between third parties

I believe this is a bald faced lie. Everything Tucker has said has turned out to be true and it was all based on him being presented with copies of his own e-mails that had been intercepted, read, and leaked. Not a passing reference by third parties. I have to reason to believe that the thing which triggered Tucker to identify that he was being spied on in the first place actually never happened. That explanation doesn't hold water.

In short, they have the ability to spy and will do it.

We knew this already. But we’re just humble avatars sharing ideas.

Tucker: you have a great deal of influence and have been rewarded. What will you do? How about running for governor of a state under a secession platform?

Tucker Carlson probably talked with someone involved in the January 6 “insurrection” and therefore the spying is justified as official business.
