Bambi saving Thumper?
A lost scene from Bambi?

“Simple explanation for the deer’s behavior - The deer is a doe. She probably has a fawn hidden in the area. The screaming a rabbit makes when it is frightened sounds very similar to the bleating a young fawn does when it is attacked or frightened. The doe heard the rabbit, assumed it was her fawn under attack, came to defend it and didn’t care that it was a rabbit. The doe was triggered and went for the cause of the attack - the hawk.”
Sounds plausible to me.
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. A hawk swooping down on a rabbit, which is then rescued by a deer. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die Mr. Hawk.”
Momma protecting her babies from the hawk. That’s normal behavior this time of year. The does will do that to your small family dog, too.
I like hawks. Rabbits not so much.
I mean, I love venison.
But deer are simply giant rats, sometimes with antlers.
When I lived outside of NYC, the deer would literally eat my bushes, trees, etc. I'd walk outside and those vermin wouldn't even run....they'd look at me with this "GFY...I'm eating, man" look.
If I was allowed to kill them, I'd have done so. Compound bow would do the trick and avoid the risk of killing my neighbor.
Deer on my dinner plate or my jerky bag, that's ok.
Otherwise, they're big rats.
Don’t see anything unusual here. I do feel sorry for he hawk, though. Just goes to show -— breakfast can be the most dangerous meal of the day.
Deer occasionally can contract rabies, also deer with CWD act very strange as well but she seemed way to coordinated to me for that.
I think the thing got triggered and decided to deal with the threat of a predator like most animals do when their young are involved, it’s the length of the attack that surprised me, she never let up even after the threat was removed.
Rabbits have the weirdest freeze up thing just like possums.
Wow. That doe is relentless. You also hear the robins going nuts in the background.
maybe the deer has mad covid disease...
How this for an odd one. Friend observed a heron catch a fish and take it to shore. Tried to swallow it but was too big. So the heron put the fish back in the water.
bambi done went medieval on his asp for messing with thumper...

Agree with the others opining that the deer was behaving protectively, on instinct. Eagles will attack and even carry off fawns sometimes, although I doubt a hawk could do that.
Life is riskier for predators than ya think. ;)
(I didn’t watch the video so if it turns out to be cute little rabbits wearing sunglasses I’m gonna come back here and flame you to a crisp.)
I think the deer killed out of instinct.
Deer saving a fellow furry critter! You go, deer!
